Linkin Park Minutes To Midnight Review

Linkin Park Minutes To Midnight ReviewThis album was highly anticipated I would say since it’s been awhile and I loved the last release Meteora. Since then, my music taste has changed and grown to a more indie style. One thing for sure though no matter the doubters, I thought their music was great and I really liked it. Lots of people claimed that Linkin Park claimed their stuff is all “the same” well I can tell you people to f*** off because if you want someone to change their whole style you tend to get bad results.

Midnights to Midnight is a different animal. There is much less rap. It feels quieter even with screaming, the screaming is with less rage and is too organized. Most of the songs are boring, not like most Linkin Park where there were interesting beats, screaming and some good rap from Mike Shinoda. The rapping took a back burner and it appears to be on only one song so it was less of a mix genres between rock and rap which most people I know really liked. This album can really suck depending on your tastes. There are a few good songs on here, I did like Shadow of the Day though it’s not really representing Linkin Park well, as well as the song In Between which is sung by Mike Shinoda.

Overall the album wasn’t good but they may have some success with some of the singles. I probably will not listen to it again after I’m done my review but there are at least some decent songs. I don’t think it’s worth buying and you’re probably better off saving the 10-15 bucks it costs. 2.5 out of 5 is what I give.

i think this new album of linkin park “minutes to midnight” is great!!!! i love it and it really hurts when some people say thet it sucks, becouse i think it is different but it has something that still makes it different from other bands’ albums. doesn’t matter if chester doesn’t scream anymore or if mike doesn’t rap as much as in meteora. it’s the first time that i hear mike sing an enterly song.

it kinda different but it’s still linkin park. they evolueted in something different and i like it a lot! LUV U LINKIN PARK!!!!!

I think some of this album is just difficult to listen to in general. I really enjoyed their sound and the problem with “evolving” is that sometimes you lose fans. I think it’s good to change but to take it slow. It’s a totally different band without the beats, the sick use of instruments, the rap and screaming mixed with singing. It just feels less creative.

its true that u lose fans if u change but u win new fans that like the new thing u’ve became. thats wat happened with linkin park. just the same.
besides, there r true fans that still like them, like me, I LOVE LINKIN PARK!!!
there r the same they just changed some things but its still linkin park. i love the new cd. im listening to it rite now and im singing hahahah!!

I remember having an argument with whether it’s good to have an artist change their style or try to keep their old style.

With every band though some artists can do whatever they want and you will still like them no watter what (Arcade Fire for me).

I personally like Linkin Park a lot as they introduced me to rock as I grew up with people who knew all things rap.

I just think they Linkin Park will lose more fans then they gain fans as they have waited a long time between releases and the amount of critics seems to be increasing. It’s harder to pickup let’s say a Britney Spears album with all the crap people (rightfully so) say about her music then it is a fresh looking band. Bands who seem to be the most successful(financially) are the ones that stay true to their originality…how many one album wonders have we seen because the bands wanted to be “different”?

look, i dont really care about wat people say so im just gonna tell u one thing. as long as there are still fans like me, linkin park will not desapear. and they dont lose fans becouse the true fans are the ones who really like u. im in love with linkin park, i dont actually know how they didnt make the change before cuz its such a powerful change… its beautiful, its smart, its amazing.
most people say that linkin park its not the same besause chester doesnt scream anymore. i personally think its a stupid argument cuz linkin park is not just screaming. linkin park is good lyrics too and that bright light they bring to the people who listen to them. no matter who they are.
i grew up listening to them and i dont like them just to continue with the rutine or something, i like them because they’ve got great songs, different but great.
why dont u see that? why do u people want everybody to scream and that stuff? its not only about that… no matter wat u say, linkin park are the best in the world.
    I LOVE LINKIN PARK!!!

Well they have diverged from the metal type sound mixed with hip-hop to something in between. I just don’t really like it as there are a lot of bands that I have grown accustomed to and I’d only listen to Linkin Park for their uniqueness not diverging into areas that other bands have covered.

Even some of the screaming songs sound very strange. It too organized and edited too much without giving that RAW feeling you get when listening to most Linkin Park singles.

The downfall for Linkin Park is that they take too long with their albums and if they do disappear it will because they choose to as they do have a lot of fans I agree. I am not bad mouthing Linkin Park and I love Mike’s work.

The stuff just isn’t quality throughout like I found their other albums. 2.5 out of 5 is not bad because there are decent songs but there is some stuff that seems like “filler” and considering LP is ruthless when it comes to perfection this album wasn’t the type that every song be hits like on Meteora/Hybrid Theory.

I know this is a really old blog post, but Im going to pop in anyway. Now that it’s been almost 2 years, I thought it would be interesting to post my current thoughts.

I’m in a similar boat as the blog poster. I think this CD is good, but it’s missing what made LP unique. The heavy songs don’t have as much punch – alot more on the raw side. The slower songs are actually really good, but I could deal with a few less. The electronics are pretty much gone, as is the rap. This is basically just a regular rock album. It’s one thing to change your sound/style, it’s another thing to abandon it entirely.

All that being said – this release was pretty successful, it had 3 fairly popular singles (what I’ve done, bleed it out, shadow of the day….leave out all the rest never really gained any traction), which is always impressive, but even more so in this new era of music.

For me, I hope they return to some of their heavier or at least electronic/hip-hop elements. The way they mixed heavy guitars with atmospheric sounds on their 1st 2 releases is a huge influence on my band – CONFLICT IN THE SKY (www.myspace.com/conflictinthesky). I guess we’ll see what happens down the road.
