Tunes I Like From Artists I Hate: Nickelback, Soulja Boy, Timbaland

I hate Nickelback. I hate Nickelback with a passion. From the bad lyrics to the annoying voice to Chad Kroeger’s hair, Nickelback fills me with rage. Okay, maybe I exaggerated a little too much here, but I think Nickelback’s lyrics are some of the worst in the history of music. Don’t think so? Listen to “Feeling Way Too Damn Good”. A part of the songs goes something like “And it’s like, every time I turn around, I fall in love and find my heart face down and, Where it lands is where it should.” What does that even mean? The only good piece of music they ever played was “Sad But True”. And they didn’t even write it, it was a Metallica song.

My second pet peeve in music is rappers with bad grammar. Timbaland is a great example here. “The Way I R” is a good song with a good tune but what the fuck is “I are?” I am sick of hearing “I are” and “you is” in rap songs. If there is anything that gives a bad rep to the educational system of the young African-Americans living in the ghettos, it’s illiterate “gansta rapperz”.

Aside from the bad grammar, I also can’t stand uncreative music. “Crank Dat” by Soulja Boy is a real catchy song. But when you listen to it, all you can hear a dude saying Yeeeh”, “Ooooooh”, “Aaah”, “Superman that hoe!” over and over again to the same beats. Is it just me or are raps getting lazier? A lot of the lines don’t even rhyme no more. And they try to cover that shit up by mumbling. There probably ARE verses in this song but I can’t hear shit over all the mumble jumble so it makes no difference at all. Maybe if these rappers take out their grills and rap clearly, they’ll make some mo’ cheddah.

i’ve listened to metal since middle school but when i listened to rap(whatever its called) it was good…about 6 or 7 years ago…now they are ALL over crowded with 60 different instruments and computerized and keep moaning through out and call it talent.

i used to listen to a lot of rap in grade 8. That was like a year or two after Eminem came out with “the real slim shady”. rap was so much better back then… the thing is, these songs they have today are only popular because they are ez to dance to in clubs and places, whereas “The Next Episode” by dr. dre isnt so easy to dance to.

Even then, I’m surprised there isn’t more electro in the mainstream. There’s awesome dance stuff that is neglected. I don’t want to hear more of this Britney Spears/Paris Hilton bullshit… come on people..
