Die! Die! Die! – Promises Promises Review

Die! Die! Die! Promises Promises ReviewDie! Die! Die! is a band out of Dunedin, New Zealand who’s style is rather hard to explain. Promises, Promises was released on February 5th on the side of the pond and I’ve had a few weeks to let it settle in.

I hate the band of name of Die! Die! Die! very much. It just feels weird to type. Anyway, “Promises, Promises” feels like a mix of art-punk, noise and whatever else I can’t think of.

Whatever their genre, it just works for Die! Die! Die! Mixing in intros, guitar riffs and just the clashing of everything gives this album such a rocking feeling. Vocally I don’t mind Andrew Wilson’s vocals and it suits the music very well. Everything seems to be intentionally sloppy a trademark of “noise rock” for me. Overall this album is mainly a punk with its guitar elements but maybe I should focus less on bookmarking the album genre and just talk about the damn music.

I find it a little hard to discuss Die! Die! Die!’s Promises, Promises. I enjoyed switching intros from pretty cool guitar riffs, drum solos and sometimes straight up clashing of instruments. It’s definitely an enjoyable album if you’re into the slightly harder stuff without going over to full blown metal. I don’t myself connecting to anything lyrically, possibly the only passage I remember off hand is on the track “Blinding” where he screams “I can never forget her if I try” multiple times. Maybe not as engaging as I would’ve liked.

I don’t find myself wanting to promote this album as great but it’s darn solid and some will enjoy it greatly. 4 out of 5.

Here are the tracks I dug most:

Death To The Last Romantic by Die! Die! Die!

Sideways, Here We Come by Die! Die! Die!
