Sing It Loud EP
Recently signed Epitaph band, Sing It Loud, has impressed me with their catchy hooks, and upbeat style. Sing It Loud, a power pop ensemble from Minneapolis Minnesota, just finished a miniature stint with A Rocket To The Moon, and will soon be touring with the likes of The Cab and We The Kings. They’re feel good lyrics and aggressive swagger craves attention and puts an optimistic spin on a rather dull subject matter.
Sing It Loud is typical in almost every sense of the genre. They’re sound, lyrics, and general theme can be heard from countless bands in the pop-rock scene, so why review these guys? Sing It Loud has an unexplainable aura to their music, yes it’s simple, but it’s effective and makes for solid music.
Sing It Loud uses both clean and distorted guitar/bass riffs, simple drum lines and an array of high pitched sounds. Take an average mainstream power pop band, add perfectly timed keyboard bridges, an optimistic arrogance, and audiences will be in for a treat. The vocals aren’t particularly top notch, but they’re perfect for the style and get the audience wanting to sing along. They provide the cherry upbeat mannerisms that get people jumping up and down and generally rocking out.
Admittedly, the music is tailor made for teenagers, but it’s always nice to fall back into those nostalgic feelings of high school. Bite Your Lip, the first song off the album is a little more aggressive then how I generalised the band, but it provides glimpses of the addictive lyrics, and powerful melodies that encompass Sing It Loud. Let Yourself Go gets closer to what I believe they do best, and that is make simple, catchy tunes that stay vibrant, rain or shine. Finally we hit, what I believe is the epitome of their sound, No One Can Touch Us. This song is lively from start to finish, with an incredibly addictive chorus, it’s not even fair. The chorus has a faint synthesized backdrop, and uses lyrics that are cheesy but fun. Add in keys here and there, the drive of five passionate band mates, and an instant hit is produced.
Sing It Loud, is a simple ailment for an otherwise crappy afternoon. These guys provide a fun, enlightening, but never meaningless, spin on life. It’s not music that should be taken seriously in the most literal sense, but should be absorbed in the most sincere way, it deserves that much. With the announcement that they will be releasing an album in the fall, using the help of Josh Cain (Motion City Soundtrack), it should be an exciting year for Sing It Loud. They have already done a small collaboration with Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), who happens to be one of my favourite front mans currently. Having the support of several well known indie power pop bands, and a rather large Myspace backing, Sing It Loud is going to be huge by the end of the year, mark my words.
Check out their Myspace for official tour dates and news.
