Closer 2 Closure – The Middle
An acoustic power pop band from Oregon, Closer 2 Closure is an amazing 2 piece duo. Their EP, The Middle, has a variety of beautiful medleys one after another. Comprised of Kellin Quinn and Titus Lockard, they are bringing back the simplicity of music. With incredible compositions on the guitar and vocals, the combination of the two talents makes a very tranquil, but absolutely soulful pair.
Good Day = Best Times, is the first of many tracks that radiate peace and beauty. The first thing to note, is the high pitched vocals of Kellin, while I’m usually not a fan of high-pitched males, I could not add anything to Kellin’s vocals to make it better, they are perfect for this brand of powerpop. Slightly feminine at times, Kellin has some serious talent to be able to hit that high of a range, and yet still sound good. Titus on the other hand, plays an incredible acoustic guitar. The composition of the guitar lines are nothing short of great, knowing when to finger pick, when to strum and in general setting the flow of the track. The music is very hopeful and an incredibly easy listen. Without being in your face, the passion is still displaced on to the listeners and it’s a very nice track.
I Think You Know, is similar in fashion, except it’s also adds a bit of funk. With a rapping verse somewhere in the middle of the track, it’s got a really cool vibe throughout. A very exciting acoustic melody, it’s quite fast paced, and has that extra groove. I really like this tracked because it felt very moving and emotional. The guitar work was fun, and the vocals were amazing. The vocals felt more like the pace setter in this track, but overall the song was moving at a nice speed.
Skipping to track 6 of this 7 track EP, we get to I’ve Been Swimming Oceans. This song is so epic, with a really powerful sound throughout. It seemed like every verse sang and every strum played, was for the last performance my ears would ever get to hear. Everything was so expressive and that hit me first and foremost. The composition was also perfectly timed and well placed with the really powerful vocal parts following slower lead ups. This is a song that I really liked, that was sad yet nice. A really successful effort and simple in nature.
Finally the final track, another groovy, lounge jam. La La Love is notable because of the killer vocals; Kellin did an amazing job for this song. The vocals sound incredibly on tune, yet at the same time, there is no real tune. It’s a very funky song that must be heard in order to understand what I’m talking about. Almost reminiscent of something you might hear from Maroon 5, it’s nothing short of awesome.
Acoustic jams are always wicked, but Closer 2 Closure has mastered it. Able to create fast paced dramatic music, and also the mellow easy listens, they have the right idea. Armed with a microphone and an acoustic guitar, they have played some incredible tunes, with their individual talents combined, I can see them going far. Even though they broke up, I really wish I could find a way to get their music.
I have had Rhyme or Reason for a couple years, and just remembered I had it.
Anyone know how to download their music?
