The Microsoft Zune is Gangsta – Screw The Ipod!

The Microsoft Zune is Gangsta Screw The Ipod!I was planning to get an Ipod this summer but by chance I was emailed by Matchstick a few times offering a brand new Zune, free. Provided I fulfill my obligations as a viral marketer. I think I only mentioned the Zune once but if you’ve seen in person I’ve showed it off or at least singing high praises of it.

There are a few good reasons why the Zune is equal if not better then the Ipod. Unless you hate Microsoft and absolutely despise any product they put out to rival Apple, this product will likely push the technology to unseen heights.

What makes the zune special? First off, the wireless transfer. You can wirelessly exchange music between friends, provided they have another Zune. So in theory, if a lot of people had Zunes it would be great since there would be a great social aspect to it. The problem for now, it is still gaining popularity but it’s definitely one upped the Ipod.

Wireless transfer between a computer and the Zune! Yeah screw the stupid USB cord, you don’t need it unless you need to recharge. Just set your Zune to sync with your computer and voila, you can easily add music.

Lightness: the Zune is so god-damned light that I forget it’s even in my pocket and during some drunk binges I think I lost it somewhere and frantically end up looking for it….

Attractive: the 8 gig is small, thin and best of all the screen looks awesome with screen-sized pictures of albums of the artist you are listening to.

Better sound quality. I went to a party to share some music to friends, especially ones who haven’t discovered the greatness that is Greg Gillis/Girl Talk and on full blast attached to computer speakers it sounded very clean compared to the Ipod being very unclear at its highest volume.

Some negatives: I have to attach the Zune and reattach it because the program doesn’t recognize that it’s in my computer’s equivalent of a vagina… so it has to be re-insert after it’s been “started up”. Possibly a bad analogy but it does seem like the program needs to be warmed up for whatever reason.

No sound control. You don’t have the option of adding bass and treble and the like. It’s also not very loud, on the bus with raging air conditioners the volume has to be at or near the maximum.

Without lock on, the Zune is easy to disturb. Many times my Zune has run out of battery due to being accidentally played for hours without me noticing. In times of need, the Zune is sometimes out of battery. The battery doesn’t last that long as well, it’s usually not a big deal but it’s an issue.

The control is a little bit sloppy. Well instead of the spinner the Ipod deploys, the Zune is simpler with an up and down scroll. The problem lies in the difference in these controls is very minimal. Sometimes I get a less then desired action because it thinks I’m doing something else. Moving to the left and clicking the left button is two different things as well but it sometimes mixes it up.

Competition is good for the consumer. The Zune really pushes the envelope and while you can expect future Apple products to attempt to match Microsoft, we only benefit by getting the coolest gadgets ever.

I really like the Zune, people have said it’s cool and I’m hoping more and more people get the Zune so I can share my music and show off how awesome I am…aren’t I awesome?
