The Miracles of Modern Science instantly had me hooked with their track MR2 that makes use of violins right off the bat. It’s start with a catchy little violin tune that continues throughout the song until about 3:30 in where we get a violin solo before busting like an orchestra and returning to the catchy little tune that we started with. Coming full circle, it’s an addicting song. Vocals aren’t as strong as I’d like them to be from Evan Younger but it may because the instrumentation is just that much more memorable.

Speaking on space suits, sometimes it makes you feel like you are in space because it’s easy to forget what I’m listening or even realizing that I’ve got an EP to review! It explains why I am late on this post. With Eating Me Alive, instead of a violin it begins with a cello solo and sharp mandolin stringing to contrast. I didn’t like this song at first but it eventually sunk in that I would constantly forget I was listening to this song.

Four tracks use a variety of classical elements brilliant, some in a catchy manner others just in a manner of making creative, unique and great music.

I really like this EP but I am also not in love, musically there are a ton of great elements and are probably a joy to watch live (you know silver space suits and all). Most bands don’t take the classical approach as serious as the Miracles of Modern Science and I guess that’s why they stand out. They definitely can bring more to the table on the vocal efforts (though I like the whistling on “524”) so that remains one small flaw for now.

I definitely want to hear more before I jump to any bigger conclusions.
