See You Soon – Don’t Give Up

See You Soon Dont Give UpSee You Soon is an acoustic powerpop act with an emphasis on her faith, featuring the musical styling’s of little known Sarah from Fresno California. Her solo project and recent EP Don’t Give Up offers listeners seven beautiful acoustic tracks. See You Soon is notable for her sweet vocals and relaxing melodies, producing songs that are calm and sombre throughout. Although her music can be touted as overly repetitious, I find it’s easily listenable quality makes it a worthwhile EP.

From start to finish Don’t Give Up is a nice mixture of acoustic guitar and wonderful female vocals. I’m a fan of the overly dramatic music as seen from other solo artists like Chase Coy and Jamestown Story. While the guitar work is not anything I haven’t seen before, the vocals do a great job of making the music something original and fresh. The album begins with Lights, and right away listeners are taken into a different feeling of warmth and nostalgia. The themes of the music are ever so cliché but they put a smile on your face which is always a great sign when it comes to pop music. Another plus is that the themes produce very simple and memorable lyrics that many can relate to or just indulge in. See You Soon has a great voice, it’s not overly powerful or distracting but it is very engaging and keeps in line with the soft tone of the album.

Run Run Girl the second track produces more of the same relaxing acoustic music, and right around this point is where people will either get bored or fall in love with the music. I was part of the later group and really liked the second track. Run Run Girl features a more aggressive delivery but otherwise falls in check with the rest of the songs. Sarah’s vocals, while never breaking any sound barriers had such soul and emotion. The lyrics are also always a great listen because they tell a story and send listeners to a different state of mind. Easily the most aggressive track on the album, the guitar work is much faster and the singing is more dramatic. That said it is still a soft acoustic ballad, which is really what See You Soon is all about.

The rest of the EP is much of the same, but there are some notable tracks that I found more memorable than others. Fall In Love is a super soft and super sweet song which has a great vibe around it. The theme is so gentle and innocent and the delivery is outstanding. The vocals were really impressive in the song because of her high pitched style it was very pleasant. I also enjoyed the guitar work, preferring the finger picking to the strumming, and in the end everything meshed very well.

The album finishes off with If You Want To a song about God and her faith. While I’m not a religious man myself, the music is inspiring. Without getting into politics, the finished EP is really fantastic. The acoustic guitar could use some work, but the vocals are great, the lyrics are elegant and the songs are classy. Definitely one of the better artists who hone a style in acoustic pop ballads, everything is wholesome and beautiful.
