The Decemberists’ The Rake Song + Hazards of Love Tracklist
The Decemberists were one of the my favorite bands early on, for whatever reason I skipped listening to The Crane Wife but enjoyed their previous EPs and albums.
I still need to check out the Crane Wife as it had some rave reviews (was it really released in ‘06?) anyway they are coming out with a new release titled the “Hazards of Love” on March 24th:
1. Prelude
2. The Hazards of Love 1 (The Prettiest Whistles Won’t Wrestle the Thistles Undone)
3. A Bower Scene
4. Won’t Want for Love (Margaret in the Taiga)
5. The Hazards of Love 2 (Wager All)
6. The Queen’s Approach
7. Isn’t it a Lovely Night?
8. The Wanting Comes in Waves / Repaid
9. An Interlude
10. The Rake’s Song
11. The Abduction of Margaret
12. The Queen’s Rebuke / The Crossing
13. Annan Water
14. Margaret in Captivity
15. The Hazards of Love 3 (Revenge!)
16. The Wanting Comes in Waves (Reprise)
17. The Hazards of Love 4 (The Drowned)
17 tracks should definitely more then cover the quantity factor but there’s something about what The Decemberists do, basically anything they do, simply works. Colin Meloy is a great frontman and sometimes they just go with a straight up folk song or aren’t afraid to bring out the orchestra out (like in recent times) and play some more in depth music.
The Rake Song starts with some angry strumming on an acoustic while Meloy who’s oft-soft voice takes a little turn in trying to get some anger off his chest. It’s a solid track, a bit different from the tracks I know but the Decemberists are admirable.
The Decemberists want you go to their website for The Rakes Song with your e-mail. The likely cost of this free track is getting up on a mailing list, I’m going to skip that. I know I’m probably not supposed to do but what’s a blogger going to do, just post a tracklist and links to their website, I’ve got to do something the next blogger isn’t doing (which they probably are anyway).
Enjoy:

I’m really looking forward to hearing this album. They never cease to amaze.
BTW: I’m digging the new appearance of your site. Easy to read and way less cluttered.
