The Rapture – Pieces Of The People We Love
I’m not going to betch about the commercialization of Valentine’s Day… whatever, receiving red gifts is a good thing (esp since I’m Chinese). While everyone is out “loving” today, I will be out “loving the dance”. It’s about the dance floor for me, as you know. Once in while, I’ll dip into other genres and I explain why.. but this week, I’m leading you back to the dance floor.
So here’s The Rapture – Pieces of The People We Love, that keeps with the love theme of today non? This album’s been out for a couple of years now, 2006… nothing new from The Rapture since, WHY???? I’m waiting for them to drop something hot!!! This album is one of the best Electronica/Punk/Rock albums I have ever heard. There’s the rock out element. The dance floor element. The rap-like element. It’s the full thing for me. In 2006, this was the only CD in my good ol’ 97 Camry (I miss).
The Rapture, a New York-based group and DJs, reminds me a lot of The Beastie Boys… only they sing more, it’s the homeboy element. The album Pieces of The People We Love reflects all that, homeboy, B-boy, Electronica, Dj’ing, Punk…
The album starts with Don Gon Do It, a slow hymn that moves into the dance beat. The chorus is a blurry one, but I can make out what they’re saying, and it reminds of another song, which I can’t put my finger on… if you know it, comment below. Pieces Of The People We Love is an anthem sounding track. Makes you want to do that march around dance, then go crazy on the chorus with some break dancing… if you can break dance, cause I can’t.
The album is a variety of danceable tracks until the last track, Live In Sunshine, which is the only mellow track of the album. The song is a perfect peaceful ending to the entire album. It’s like you spent the whole night dancing to Pieces Of The People We Love, this is the track you drive home to.
My absolutely faves, if I have to pic: Don Gon Do It, Get Myself Into It, Whoo! Alright-Yeah… Uh Huh, and The Sound.
