Venus Infers – The Truth About Venus Infers
Release date – November 9, 2008
At last, a good band with danceable music that isn’t trying to sound like the Killers. Venus Infers new album, “The Truth About Venus Infers”, will have you up dancing around the living room (and scaring the cat) from the beginning. You would have to have your feet nailed to the floor not to get up and dance to these eight infectious tunes.
Venus Infers is another band that I’d heard of but wasn’t familiar with and now I’m feeling a little chagrined that I didn’t pay attention to them sooner. As anyone can guess, the bands name comes from a Velvet Underground song, “Venus In Furs”. However, the band has little resemblance to VU, in fact their sound is much more likely to conjure up Muse than VU. “Hit Parade”, the second (first song as there is a brief intro) song, has a very strong resemblance to “Starlight”. Other songs bring Radiohead (Waterfall) and The Libertines (You’re Making Me Nervous) to mind.
“The Truth About Venus Infers” is an album that would translate well to a live sound, in fact I would be willing to bet it would blow the roofs off many venues. It has a large sound which would fill a room quite nicely. Venus Infers is an unsigned band that has managed to make an album of quality that doesn’t sound like it was made in someone’s basement on a Mac using the latest version of ProTools. This is something of an anomaly in this time of DYI records. It would be good to bring up the fact that this is an independently produced album now. The lyrics are smart and the melodies keep returning to your brain long after the notes of the last song ends. It has a lush, warm sound that is easy on the ears even when Davis Fetter lets out his formidable scream.
Venus Infers consists of lead singer/guitarist, Davis Fetter; guitarist, Elliot Richardson; bassist, Richard Marlon, and drummer, Steve Wilmot. The name, Venus Infers, is a take on the Velvet Underground song, “Venus In Furs”. This line-up is new, Trisha Smith having left the band a year ago. You can buy Venus Infers music through iTunes, and CDBaby. Visit them on MySpace.
