Suburban Kids With Biblical Names – #4 EP
Suburban Kids With Biblical Names is a lo-fi pop duo from Stockholm, Sweden. I’ve been a fan of various songs they have released over the past few years (from 2004). They’ve always maintained a quirky, geeky way about themselves and while it was borderline silly, it was always infectious. I’m even a fan of sister band (gf/wife of Peter Gunnarson fronts it in addition to help from Peter) Springfactory.
I’ve always been a casual fan of SKWBN with Loop Duplicate My Heart as my favourite track. I can’t remember what got me into them but it’s fair to say I drool over indie pop. Anyway they’ve released a handful of EP’s with their last being my favourite (#3) – err technically an album which is understandable. I was supposed to write about the fourth (#4) back in early February but a few school commitments got in the way.
The anchor track for #4, is 1999 which is a basic over the top pop song you’d expect out of SKWBN. The good thing is the use of Lina Cullemarks (?) vocals as a back up. It helps propel the song from average to good. They show off their native tongue in studenter pa flak. I’m not going to explain much more than that because I unfortunately don’t know any Swedish. It’s nice though.
The thing is with this EP, they don’t really exceed expectations and play it generally safe. While I eagerly await a second album, this EP is an alright way to bridge that gap. I’m probably going to move onto other things though. It’s not fun enough, heart warming or geeky enough as their other records to be charmed. The duos with Lina are really good but before that point there were unique and extremely distinguished from other bands.
