Thunderheist – Thunderheist Review

Thunderheist Thunderheist Review

Thunderheist. An electro-duo from Toronto. Are you proud T.Dot??? Not to say there isn’t good talent out of Toronto… but I’m always excited about the Electronica vibe!

The Thunderheist album is definitely influenced by the 90s Electronica vibe, mixed with old school hip-hop, and the crunkness of booty music. Each track makes you want to get down and drop it low… but not quite that raunchy. The problem is, it’s quite repetitive. Like crunk booty music, I could only take so much and I need to move on. I didn’t find a great variety in the album. A lot of the songs are similar. But, it’s a great beginning. If this is the beginning, then it should only get better. I can see potential in this group. In this debut album, you can hear the sounds come from different influences, but you can also hear them trying to define their own sound. Unfortunately, their sound is not quite distinct yet. I think by the 2nd or 3rd album we should have a more definitive and solid record.

Something tells me for Thunderheist, it’s all about the live show, which I might attend at the end of April (and write about it of course). Judging from the pics on their MySpace, I’m convinced they can make you get down and get a serious work out.

I like Nothing 2 Step 2, LBG (Little Booty Girl) and Space Cowboy.

For the Thunderheist bio, here.

Thunderheist will be at the Phoenix Concert Theater on 4/30/09.

The Thunderheist album drops on March 31st, 2009.

Thunderheist – Jerk It

Thunderheist – Sweet 16

PS. Some people think Santogold stole her act of M.I.A. Please. Check your facts and timelines, get them straight and listen to the albums carefully. A lot of us are listening to the same music, so being influenced by similar styles is not uncommon. But, there’s influenced similarities and then there’s copying. In this case, no one’s copying nobody. I’m saying this now because I don’t want some fool coming on here telling me Thunderheist stole their act from MIA or Santogold or whoever else has some influences of an Electronica vibe.
