No Doubt and Green Day are Back

No Doubt and Green Day are Back

No Doubt

Okay, the title is a bit misleading. I really mean to say NO DOUBT IS BACK!!! and Green Day is sorta-kinda back. Does that show what I mean more? I’m so excited to go to the No Doubt concert next month. I’ve never seen No Doubt in concert and have been waiting forever for their ‘comeback’ so I can see them. The good thing is, they are performing all old material and will be tentatively releasing a new album in 2010. This is great news. I like Gwen Stefani on her own just as well, but Gwen in No Doubt is perfection: energy, vibe, music, style, and all that. The full band is back, including the two honourary tour members Stephen Bradley and Gabrial McNair on trumpets and trombones (respectively), keyboards and backup vocals.

This week No Doubt was on the Today’s Show performing a mini-concert. I didn’t find that much had changed with the band, their energy and vibe is pretty much the same as before Gwen had gone major pop-solo-act. It all felt the same except with a bigger budget and higher heels.

No Doubt @ Air Canada Centre, Toronto, Ontario on Jun 16 2009.

No Doubt and Green Day are Back

Green Day

On April 24th, Green Day released their much anticipated video for the single “Know Your Enemy” directed by Matthew Cullen (who also did Pork & Beans by Weezer). The track is alright, nothing too special. I like the energy of the song, but it lacks something, can’t quite put my finger on it. I would say, same for the video. The Know Your Enemy video is Green Day performing and searchlights looking for them. There’s no crowd, no anarchy, no riot…and yet, searchlights and helicopters are looking for them. Yes, the song is catchy, but it lacks the charisma and depth of Green Day’s past work.

Go here to watch it. I can’t get it on YouTube or any embedded clip. I love how it’s so difficult to keep anyone else from posting this mediocre video. Whatever.
