Kinch – The Economic Chastisement EP

I really like Kinch. Advances was a very good album especially for fans of pop rock. The band out Phoenix, Arizona released a 3-song EP “The Economic Chastisement” awhile ago and I’ve just gotten now been able to listen to it.
The band has chosen to release their past record and this EP for free at their website for if you have a chance, go get them! The band has had extensive touring while self-releasing their material so I have great respect for them (though perhaps taking on such a big financial loss is not something I’d recommend).
The Economic Chastisement is likely named for the rough economic times we’ve been put through for the beginning of 2009. The title track itself, starts off a slow paced using soft vocals to introduce the EP smoothly (it’s sad, I’m not sure which band member does what in the band despite being a fan). The song allows for progression using guitar pop hooks mixed in with nice vocals. As for relating to the economy, I just never really looked at the song in relation the economy.
My favourite track is Handclap. It’s a short 2 minute pop song but it’s almost perfect in its catchiness. C.V. is their longest track and features the piano much more extensively compared to the two other tracks. I’m not as big of a fan of the track, as it takes a little long to play out but patience is awarded with this track.
The EP, albeit short showcases the band’s talent in a quick manner. Time to wait for their next album now.
Rating: 4 out of 5
