Tiny Masters of Today – Skeletons CD Review

Tiny Masters of Today Skeletons CD ReviewTiny Masters of Today has been gaining some popularity and are noted as the punk rock band featuring of teenage siblings (15-year old Ivan and 13-year old Ada). A few issues arise when reviewing a band of their nature. First, do you look at the band and see that they are basically children and lower your expectations? Or do you keep expectations high and compare them to other bands?

If it’s the latter, then Tiny Masters of Today fail those expectations. They play a simple pop-garage/punk style that is catchy but also not lyrically challenge. In a sense I find that the target audience that would appreciate it most would be the 13-15 year olds, I just think I’ve heard far too many similar bands that are seasoned to give much credit to Ivan and Ada. It’s not unlistenable it’s just lacking in the creativity side of things.

However, just criticizing them in such a way seems a bit unfair as well. Some songs are good and while you’d expect more from bands, this album is probably then you’d expect most musicians coming out of high school. In that sense that’s impressive. I definitely can sit down and listen to the record for some time and not be annoyed. It’s basically pop music but it does take some talent. At least they aren’t listening to Hannah Montana and I guess it does make this type of band a rarity. Whoever is influencing them must be pretty cool.

At the end of the day, let’s not over exaggerate Tiny Masters of Today’s skill like some publications have. They are pretty good – for their age and they have 5 years before they reach adulthood and who knows what we’ll get from them.

Rating: 3 out of 5
Are they masters of today? Definitely not. However the future looks bright and I’d probably prefer to see them again when they have greater lyrical depth and much more technical proficiency.
