Chairlift – Bruises Video

Chairlift, the Brooklyn trio – thanks to the Ipod commercial will be sort of a one hit wonder. Not any fault of their own but that’s just the nature of things. Charlie Teljeur, reviewed Does You Inspire You and mentions the same ideas suggesting the band has better songs and ability on their album then just one single standout.

Nonetheless, we’re here to talk about that one song since they just released a video for it.

If there wasn’t Wikipedia (or their myspace), I wouldn’t be too sure if this was Caroline Polachek solo thing. While the other two members, Aaron Pfenning and Patrick Wimberly are just sleeping and staring at the camera (looking seemingly uninterested), Polachek is stretching and playing up to the camera. While she comes off as sexy (in a girl next door sort of way), I have trouble realizing a point to this video.

The video begins with spray painting of the camera and I was excited to see perhaps an artsy video. Alas it lasts for 15 seconds. After some making out on camera and spin the bottle mixed in with Caroline Polachek playing with herself some more… we are done.

Hmm, I guess I don’t have much more to say. As bad as I make it sound, at least you can be amused (provided you’re into pointless music videos) by Caroline Polachek lying on the floor and doing some psuedo-masturbation.

Some links to remixes:
Devoir changes it up the composition with a little cooler of a variation. Lil Sokz adds in his own verses. Lyrically decent, perhaps some work on the production could make it an awesome song (probably no chance the label allows him though).

Bruises by Chairlift
Bruise by Chairlift (acoustic) – it’s kind of bad….

As a whole this song is pretty good, but I can’t get past the fact that when in Vegas a few months ago the iPod commercial with just the chorus played repeatedly outside the Fashion Mall as I waited for a co-worker, like seriously non-stop…. It drove me mental and now I can’t listen to it.

Thanks Vegas…. just another reason why I hate you.

That’s so very funny because I too found myself inundated with those few notes of “Bruises” outside the Fashion Mall in Vegas as I waited for my lovely bride to finish her Legal Services convention down the block @ Circus Circus, but I had the complete opposite reaction.
It was one of the few high points of an otherwise dismal trip to what I found to be the asshole of the armpit of our otherwise mostly beautiful country.
I danced with my girl outside that mall when she came to meet me & now I have a secret smile every time I hear it…

Maybe I should give it a second chance and try to not associate it with my visit to hell on earth. I’ve actually watched the video a couple more times and found it to be not as annoying as once perceived.

    I still hate Vegas though.

This post & the ensuing conversation has inspired me to create a post about this very song & my history thereof.
Please read it here if so inclined~

& I want to thank both Allan, the original author, & Oliver, who commented on the post here, for that inspiration.
(& I too still hate Vegas.)
