Suckers – EP Review

Suckers EP Review

“Suckers” on a google image search comes up with the nastiest images if you are unfamiliar with the amount of porn that is on the internet (just don’t search Suckers on there okay?!). Anyway, speaking of images – I find the cover to their EPto be slightly odd and for whatever reason it gives me a weird feeling. A guy in gold jacket with a mask can do that I guess (I’m with agreeance that the EP cover is horrendous but alas their music is good).

What can I say about Suckers’ EP? It’s an interesting EP that has my interest piqued when I first heard some of their songs off their myspace. While it seems they are up and coming, they are definitely kind of unique even if it’s sort of under the pop genre.

The song Beach Queen features unique vocals that are either helped by the entire group, the lead singer Quinn Walker features very involved vocals where he hits many notes while staying manly (looking at you Passion Pit). The music involves a lot of keyboard, electro synths to give off some sort of progressive style like Afterthoughts and TV which starts off slow. It’s superb to say the least.

While the band doesn’t look like – the music appears to be of those of perfectionists. The production is of high quality with various sounds that could make a track sound hectic. The band finds a good balance between being too sugary and balancing the Quinn Walker’s vocals. It’s simple in theory but all the right pieces seem to be place on all four tracks.

The band can sneak up on you. I liked what I heard originally but not to the same extent as I am now. I just kept coming back to the EP numerous times and wasn’t even sure why. It’s pretty clear now when taking a closer look, Suckers’ brand of pop is unique, creative and most of all; enjoyable. Perhaps it may be in the guilty pleasure territory but definitely ‘gets your body movin’ ;) .

Rating: 4.5 out of 5
It’s great from top to bottom.

(Hmm, I guess I never read the P4K review or any other reviews and am actually surprised others are digging this as well. It’s really good!)

If you get a chance to see them live, definitely do it. I saw them open for Rock Plaza Central and they were great. Full of energy and putting on a stadium-size show in a pretty empty Lee’s Palace. I’m waiting very impatiently for an LP.

Yeah sucks that I missed that show. Had to rest due to surgery. Hopefully they will be back.
