Polaris Music Prize MP3 Reviews Part 3
Just two more days until the announcement of the shortlist. In which case, you can expect more backlash haha. Here’s my third installment of quickfire reviews of mp3s by the artists of the Polaris Music Prize Longlist. Here are: Part 1 and Part 2.
Snailhouse – Lies on The Prize
Dollar Signs by Snailhouse
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
I’ve been incredibly harsh when rating acoustic artists. The song is decent though just not that into it.
Charles Spearin – The Happiness Project
Anna by Charles Spearing
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Unique? Yes. Good? Ehh not that sure. It’s alright, not bad. Apparently the album is a concept album so judging a single here – does me absolutely no good. Mix of vocals with music is cool but meh doesn’t do it for me.

Rae Spoon – superioryouareinferior
Come On Disco Fire Burn The Disco Down by Rae Spoon
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Reading Rae Spoon’s biography leads to confusion when contrasting the music. Their publicity makes no mention of the fact – but you just have to figure it out on your own. Rae Spoon’s vocals are excellent in a very simplistic pop-like track. It makes gender irrelevant in this case – it’s just good music.
(Weird, I bookmarked the email I received from their press company as an album I wanted but I must’ve forgotten about it last year – time for a late review)
The Stills – Oceans Will Rise
Being Here by The Stills
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
As good as Logic Will Break Your Heart was – this album sucks and doesn’t deserve to be here. The song “Being Here” and “Everything I Build” were probably the standouts and they do have a level of decency. Unfortunately, I can attest the rest of the album – does not. Sorry for ripping them but are you kidding me?
Think About Life – Family
Johanna by Think About Life
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Mix of dance, electro while experimenting with jazz on this song. Is it supposed to get your body moving? If so then it doesn’t. It’s interesting at the very least but nothing to write home about.
Timber Timbre – S/T
There Is A Cure by Timber Timbre
Rating: 4 out of 5
There has been a lot of hype surrounding Timber Timbre, though perhaps it’s about time to discover why there has been so much talk. There Is A Cure is soulful track and a pretty good track at that one.

Chad VanGaalen – Soft Airplane
Willow Tree by Chad VanGaalen
Rating: 5 out of 5
Okay, this isn’t fair since I’ve listened to this track like 50 times. This album should be on the shortlist. Robbery if it’s not.
Martha Wainwright – I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings Too
You Cheated Me by Martha Wainwright
Rating: 3 out of 5
An alright pop song. It’s okay but again we’re talking about Canada’s BEST music. It’s just not that good.
Patrick Watson – Wooden Arms
Wooden Arms by Patrick Watson
Rating: 4.25 out of 5
I really like it. I haven’t bothered to listen to Patrick Watson and heard a lot of outcry with Pitchfork’s review of this record.
Wolf Parade – At Mount Zoomer
Call It A Ritual by Wolf Parade
Rating: 3.75 out of 5
It’s a good song but not that great of a Wolf Parade track. Apologies To The Queen Mary was just by far a superior album to this one.
Women – S/T
Black Rice by Women
Rating: 5 out of 5
Listened to this track a whole lot over the past year.
Woodpigeon – Treasury Library Canada W/ Houndstooth Europa
Love In The Time Of Hopscotch
Rating: 4.25 out 5
By far the best song on Treasury Library Canada.

sorry to say but happiness project doesn’t deserve 1/10th of a star
they are only on this list because someone at arts and crafts jacks off to them every night or is banging charles spearin
it’s not music
it’s not art
annnd its not crafts
its garbage, and a waste of life, and the album isn’t worth the gas money to go to the store to buy the album
