The Strange Boys – The Strange Boys and Girls Club Review

The Strange Boys The Strange Boys and Girls Club Review
The Strange Boys live up to their name, strange they are indeed. When I first listened to them, I couldn’t really peg them for anything but I just really dug their off-beat style. Ryan Sambol’s Vocals are a even worse form of Spencer Krug’s vocals, potentially annoying for many but different. The band mixes in guitar pop with classic blues and country to give it a wild high energy paced feel. The songs are mainly pop songs in structure but it just feels like there’s something extra being offered at all times.

I’m not sure how much I actually like it. I respect the style and at times it works very well but I know that others might not like it as well. The band does play it to its strengths, with very short songs. They don’t try to overdo the weirdness and if they have some annoying interesting sounds up their sleeve, it doesn’t last for too long. It’s hard to say though, how much I actually like the album. I can hardly choose favorites. A lot of songs are decent when scrolling through them but I can’t commit anything to memory after listening to the album for the 15th time.

The band is still very entertaining, perhaps in a coming from left field sort of perspective. It’s really fun music due to the uniqueness and upbeat style of each song. The howling seems cute on Woe Is You and Me. It does sound like something out of the old days but I’m not expert on eras of music so let’s keep that on the down low.

For whatever reason, this album is a tough review. It’s a solid disc with The Strange Boys showing off their talent. Their strangeness does make me a bit tedious though… if the album interests you by the time you’ve read all that, be sure to check it out and tell me what you think. I think this album is one that will ultimately polarize people, since at times I do want to say “I don’t get it”.

Rating: 3.75 out of 5
I think there might be difference in tastes here. I like it but I just can’t get myself to like it more and it’s one of those things where I just don’t have much reasoning to offer.
