The Walkmen @ Lee’s Palace + Crazy Downtown Toronto Adventure

The Walkmen @ Lees Palace + Crazy Downtown Toronto Adventure
I had a long day yesterday. Starting off with the Ontario Science Centre – I’m a geek at heart. After having a nice time – there’s some decent stuff going on but to see everything just seems to take roughly 4 hours. We also waited 40 minutes to see the photographic imaging only to have the power shut down at 6pm. It was fun though.

Anyway yesterday was the first time I brought an SLR along with me. I borrowed it from my sister’s fiancé who showed me how to use it on Thursday. Had no time to officially ask for a photo pass but it’s not likely I would have issues as I didn`t bring my macro lens. I also have known for a fact other bloggers have brought their much MORE sophisticated cameras into Lee`s Palace. Well at 10pm in time to see Cass McCombs and the bodyguard refuses to let me in for having said camera. He also shot a lie “no one has ever brought a camera like that in” only to retreat a few seconds later. I tried to get an official photo pass but it didn’t work out to say the least.

One message to Lee’s Palace: If you are going to deny people access to the show for having a camera, please have somewhere to store their stuff. Obviously it’d be for a charge much like coat check (which was not running last night…annoyingly). It does add extra revenue and rather then flat out deny people entry and look for somewhere to put their stuff – it’d be really convenient. Other places do offer this, albeit it’s quite annoying a place like The Opera House does this they at least offer the patrons an option so they don’t have to scramble. It does peeve me off a bit but I’ll keep it cordial.

Anyway, we ended up cabbing it to the Greyhound station and putting my bag in there. We decided to walk back to Lee’s Palace, taking roughly 45 minutes. We already wasted enough money and I was still peeved among other things. We arrived in time for The Walkmen.

With digital cam in hand and behind a sold out crowd, The Walkmen played a pretty awesome set. Here are the pictures: Usually it seems people are dogged by sound issues at Lee’s Palace it seems but they were absolutely flawless. It wasn’t the greatest show I’ve ever seen but it was darn good. Even though I only knew the songs off You & Me, the Walkmen really proved that they are well deserving of their popularity.

Here are my crappy photos: (apologize for the quality but you have to understand the situation I was put in The Walkmen @ Lees Palace + Crazy Downtown Toronto Adventure )

My night was not over. After taking a break to go for some wings and beer after the show, we went to walk back to the storage centre. The walk was even longer this time. One, we were drunk and two my knee is bad shape as this was my first concert post-surgery really wore me down and I needed a break every block it seems. We ended up getting to the storage place at around 3:30 am…to find out it’s locked, with my house keys in there. I could’ve probably screamed out a loud “FUCKKKKKKKK” but with my friend we just ended up sleeping at Tim Horton’s (we also were bugged by a homeless person while sleeping, he offered his new bike for 5 bucks but it was sketchy) until 6 where I got my backpack and got on the subway to get home at 7am. Yay.

Here’s a pic of me lying down at Timmies.
