Our Lady Peace – Burn Burn Review
Our Lady Peace is back, with their newest CD “Burn Burn.” Released July 21, 2009, it is the first new music we’ve heard from OLP in four years. What has OLP been doing all this time? Well.. Lead vocalist Raine Maida has been focused on producing his own solo album “The Hunter’s Lullaby (2007)”. While the rest of the band members have been working on their own musical side projects.
For “Burn Burn,” OLP decided to listen/follow Raine Maida advice and put this record together with no major label and no outside help from producers. All of these decisions were strategically made to help achieve the same feelings and success that OLP enjoyed from the original releases of “Naveed (1995)” and “Clumsy (1997).”
A simple rock album, “Burn Burn” is clearly missing the eerie sounds and the painful signing of Lead vocalist Raine Maida. No Longer our depressing anthem of the hard times in life, this new CD is instead full of strong connected songs with a lot more focus put on the melody and choruses.
“Burn Burns” first single is “All You Did Was Save My Life.” This song has a brief moment that reminds us of the old OLP, but then quickly transforms into a rhyme with the catchy hook “I’m not dying” being replayed over and over.
While “Burn Burn” is a good comeback album for Our Lady Peace, it is missing the gritty depression of OLP’s previous music. It was a solid attempt at recreating the magic of the old OLP but it just fall short of what I was looking for. At least OLP back together making music right??
