Its Not Me, Its Doctor Rosen Rosen Album Review

I must admit I find Lily Allen the person pretty cool, I love her general lack of class (via displaying her third nipple, public drunkness, racial slurs) and sense of humor. Her music on the other hand, yeah its catchy at first but it gets annoying fast, really fast. That’s why I was at first skeptical to believe the hype around Doctor Rosen Rosen’s remix of her latest album Its not me its you, cleverly retitled Its not me, its Doctor Rosen Rosen.

The album started out extremely slow for me, I find Lily’s vocals to always be very sad and slow and never match the instrumentals. So when Dr Rosen Rosen made the tracks even more upbeat it sounded extremely awkward and amateur. I found the third track Not Fair the most annoying of all, it had this bad 80s thing going on that is all but too much over done. Seeing as I downloaded the album based on the singles I had heard previously I nearly stopped listening entirely.

With all that being said Dr Rosen Rosen really proved his ability as a producer. The rest of the album was what Allen’s album should have been, the instrumentals match the vocals perfectly, they are slow and meolodic and really fit Allen’s general sound. I find her happy sad songs with talk singing that she continually puts out, while at first refreshing, to be getting very tired, Doctor Rosen Rosen has a special ability to create the perfect blend of instruments resulting in a calming song, which is something not enough producers now a day have.

The real standout on the album for me was Never Gonna Happen, with Allen’s usual upbeat sound I never noticed how well written her vocals really are. I loved how soft Rosen Rosen made her sound and took the depressing content and really made it more suitable for a song. The lack of accordion from the original also makes it an instant winner for me; I just tend to associate accordions with annoying things.

Overall the album is average, with the exception of a few songs. None the less those few songs are REALLY good songs and have made enough of an impression on me that I will most defiantly follow the work of Doctor Rosen Rosen.

3.5/5
