Fever Ray Concert Review
Having seen some performances via youtube of the Knife, I was unsure of what to expect from a Fever Ray concert. Fortunately, Karin Dreijer Andersson held up without her brother, everything from the set to the costumes made the experience unlike any concert I have been to before.
The set reminded me of my grand parents house, really tacky old lamps which would turn on and off and set the mood perfectly for the concert. Karin had a strange death eater cloak on, with an over sized fur hood and monster hands, her band also had some pretty crazy costumes, all black with working overtime because I could barely see her face. But really, she could have been standing on stage with no set wearing and American Eagle hoody and I would still have thought it was amazing. The thing I hate most when I go to show is when you can tell that they really don’t have that much talent vocally, and sound way off, it really takes away from the experience. She has one of those voices that works perfectly, I also assumed that she would use that voice distorter that she so famously uses, but surprisingly she only used it once. The fact of the matter is she really doesn’t have that much material so the concert was short, my only complaint really is that she didn’t perform any of the Knife’s Material, because that would have put it over the top for me.

Despite her lack of an encore, Fever Ray has changed my standard of what a concert should be, her lack of audience involvement worked perfectly with the entire mood of the show. Normally that alone would make me hate the concert, but the more I think about it, the more the concert becomes a performance to me.
The doors opened at 9 30, and the opening act must have started right away, because I got there around 10 30 and Fever Ray had just started, I hear the opening act was just alright, but we will never know. The only comparable concert I have ever been too is Bjork, simply because of the amount of creativity that went into the set, the costumes, to even leaving the stage. You can really tell that they are creating a performance, rather than your run of the mill “this is the best crowd, it really is” routines.
Even though I hope Fever Ray wont be coming out with material anytime soon (seriously, The Knife better be coming out with some new material) I hope that I get to see her perform again, because seriously that shit was CRAZY.
