Solange Knowles – Stillness Is The Move – Dirty Projectors Cover

Solange Knowles Stillness Is The Move Dirty Projectors Cover
I don’t think I’d ever writer about Solange Knowles. On a whim I decided to check out her cover of the great track by The Dirty Projectors, Stillness Is The Move.

Honestly, I was surprised how good it is. I know she has big footsteps to follow in Beyonce but Solange really wins me over in this track. Not only is Solange a great singer and hits the notes in the original with ease, the production of this track is slightly different giving it a more RnB feel.

I really have nothing else to say but it’s definitely worth checking it out. Even compare the two below:

Fun cover but odd person covering it tho, don’t you think? I could picture someone like Bjork doing this Dirty Projectors track but not Solange. Oh well still pretty cool.

Definitely, makes it all the better it seems.

Dave Longstreth has always incorporated ‘soulful’ melodies in his songs. Re-listen to the last 1:09 of “No More” or “Spray Paint” on Rise Above. Dude is the white, indie, second-coming of Prince. I’m surprised it’s taken this long for an R&B cover of any DP track to be made.

I vote Dirty Projectors & Jack White to team up an make a blues album…

FI – I definitely agree. I’ve become a big DP fan over this year. It’s definitely a mix of classical, pop, soul etc. I’m not sure I’d like to see DP and Jack White work together though. Jack White has more of an abrasive style that would clash with the elegance of DP imo.
