What’s Upcoming In 2010
I think a general consensus agrees that the impact of Phoenix’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavillion in 2009 is the greatest to the music industry. It’s a bit senseless to say that music in 2010 will be even better, but I think it’s safe to say that there is a lot to look forward to.
Bright Eyes. Any confession of love I have towards any Conor Oberst production would be an understatement. Maybe “Outer South” wasn’t by any means a peak in Oberst’s talent; however, his self titled album changed folk rock forever. Before retiring the label Bright Eyes, the band is set to release one more album together this fall.
Bright Eyes – Bowl Of Oranges
Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life
Radiohead. Since Thom Yorke began doing his own thing, skepticism of Radiohead began to emerge. Sure, like with Conor Oberst, the masses love a solo act. But the original bond of such a powerful band can never be broken. Look out 2010, another Radiohead album is on the way.
Radiohead – Reckoner
Radiohead – House Of Cards
MGMT. Such a band made waves like no other in 2008. Parallel to Animal Collective last year I’d say. This year, the guys will be back with the sophomore release Congratulations. “It was more of a sarcastic congratulations. It just feels right. It’s funnier now. We had no idea what was going to happen with the first album in terms of success or radio play. You know, it’s been a crazy year so now it’s even more annoying that the second album’s called congratulations.”
MGMT – The Youth
MGMT – Kids
Panic! At The Disco. I’m ashamed that I’m not fully sure if Panic is followed by an exclamation. But that’s not really my fault is it? A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out contained a purity and bluntness that most albums failed to achieve. Sexual teenage love could never be sung so well. The sophomore album, Pretty Odd, takes a different direction, but definitely shows the artistic ability to represent love and imagination. Hopefully, however, their new release, “New Perspective” does not reflect what Urie and his band plan to bring forth to 2010.
Panic! At The Disco – When The Day Met The Night
Panic! At The Disco – New Perspective
Hot Chip. Spoon. Arcade Fire. The Decemberists. Fleet Foxes. You can’t say 2010 is gonna suck.
Agreed, there is a lot to look forward to! Just January alone has Broken Bells, Spoon, Vampire Weekend, Laura Veirs, and OK Go! If every month is like that the best of 2010 lists are gonna be hard to write.
