Micachu and the Shapes- Artist Review
To some, Micachu and the Shapes are nothing new, but to others they are a whole new spectrum in the music industry. I had first seen Micachu in a magazine I was reading, and needless to say, I am elated to have stumbled upon the group, to say the least. From photographs, one would automatically take this group as a joke; their appearance very adolescent looking and playful, but as the wise phrase goes, don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
Based in the United Kingdom, Micachu’s music transcends. The lead singer, Mica Levi, does things with her voice I have never even heard before (mind you, voice techniques do work wonders,) and the lyrics to which she sings to are so pure. “If I could eat your heart…” lead singer Mica belts over a very odd and infectious arrangement. The group has the type of music which is almost an acquired sound; not everyone can love it, but when you do, it’s something you constantly play.
Micachu are one of those groups that want you to have an elusive and trans-formative experience when delving into their tracks, and really, what kind of artist could mash banjos with electronic/experimental beats and make it sound like perfection?
The only negative I have for the trio is that the songs are a tad short; many even under the 1 minute scope, and it’s a bit disappointing when you start really appreciating a song, only for it to rapidly end.
Micachu are the epitome of uniqueness and originality, and their music is just plain refreshing. I think we all need to let go of the fact that the music industry is sweltering, and instead stay optimistic, also thrusting artists like Micachu and the Shapes to success. The group also released an album entitled Jewellery and have a few mix tapes which I would recommend checking out.
