The Warm Heart of Africa- The Very Best Album Review

The Warm Heart of Africa The Very Best Album Review
I know, I know, its a been a long time coming, they are one of my favourite of 09 I just never got around to writing this review. The Very Best are exactly what the music industry needs right now, unique sounds drawing from african influence to make some of the most interesting songs I have heard in a really long time. Comparisons to M.I.A go without saying, but they are different in a lot of ways. The Very Best are a lot more traditional in their influence from the third world, the tribal drums are untampered which really adds an authenticity to their sound. I’d say that they are an african tribal band, with an electro influence rather than the other way around.

I have always enjoyed African tribal music but as you all know I love my electro, so the combination of the two really works. The synthed up tribal drums and chanting make up for one amazing album. My favourite on the album is Julia, its by far the heaviest electro song on the album and despite not being able to understand a word of what they are saying I cant help but sing along. Kamphopo is another one of my favourites, but that could just be beacuse it sampled one of my old favourites from Architecture in Helensiki, and might I say they do it better than anyone I have ever heard.

The Warm Heart of Africa (the song) freaturing Ezra Koeing of Vampire Weekend is another great track, really the entire album is amazing so I’m not going to be able to say anything bad about it. Im sure most of you by now have heard of The Very Best, however, if you have yet to check them out don’t waste another second, they are amazing and I hope will be around for a long time continuing to innovate and make amazing music.

I was totally jamming to the Warm Heart of Africa song thinking it sounds a lot like Vampire Weekend’s new album when low and behold… featuring Ezra. Nice.
