Pac Div- Don’t Mention It Mixtape Review
There seems to be an ongoing trend in the music industry as of recent, it being many artists releasing mixtapes promptly before their albums, and congenial ones at that. Said is the case with the California hip hop trio Pac Div.
Pac Div used to have 10 members, but in 2008 eliminated 7 of them leaving brothers Like and Mibbs and good friend BeYoung. Together, they have released Don’t Mention It, a witty and strong mixtape, albeit it does have many coincidental likeness’ to other tracks and artists.
It’s On immediately reminded me of Drake’s cult hit Ransom, and Birds (featuring Pill) and Broccoli sounded like songs straight off of a Cool Kids album. The unique beats paired with the easy flow and lyrics ridden about their money and people copying their swagger just ooze the style coined by Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish. The influence of Wale and Kid Cudi are other artists who seemed present on the mixtape.
Despite the similarities, Pac Div have released a solid album. With another album currently in the works to also be released in 2010, one can only hope that the fire and stamina which is ridden on this album will pour over to their next.
Pac Div- Birds featuring Pill
Pac Div- Broccoli
