Song of the Day: Bombay Bicycle Club – Rinse Me Down

Bombay Bicycle Club, a folk rock band from London, is playing 2 sets during this year’s Canadian Music Fest — one at the Buzz Factor Showcase and one at The Indies. I gave their albums, I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose (2009) and Flaws (2010), a listen earlier this month and immediately fell in love. Their third album is scheduled to be released June 2011. The track, “Rinse Me Down,” is their second single from Flaws. ENJOY!

Video of the Day – Thom Yorke + Beyonce

Can Thom Yorke dance? Um…maybe? This spastic “dance” was originally in the Lotus Flower video but some clever soul has mashed it with Beyonces Single Ladies. What came out of it is a rather interesting take on both. Yorkes jerky movements, which have been heavily edited for the video, and the fact it was shot in black and white, oddly fit the song. Thanks go to Tthheeppaarrtyy for making a weirdly enjoyable video mash-up.

And while we are on the subject of Radiohead, unbelievably, the Robotanists, from California, have already covered all the songs on Radiohead’s new release, The King of Limbs. Yes, that’s right, covered them all. All eight of them in twenty-four hours. That works out to roughly three hours per song to dissect, decompose, rearrange and reassemble them. And not just with a few electronic embellishments over an acoustic track. No. These are fully fleshed out covers. Very nicely done, too, for the most part.

If you aren’t sure about the Radiohead album, you might like this treatment better. A bit smoother and simpler than the originals but the integrity of the songs remains unchanged. Sarah Ellquists vocals are softer than Yorkes but well suited to the material. Totally stunned that they could do justice to these dense and layered tracks in just twenty-four hours. Kudos to them.

You can listen and/or download here.
