Video of the Day – Atomic Tom – Take Me Out

I know that I am often behind the times when it comes to new technology – I still have an original iPhone – and I am often perplexed at the need for the next new thing when the old one still works fine, so I know I’m late to the gate about iPhone/iPad applications that make your mobile device into a musical instrument but a few things have caught my attention lately and so I decided to actually, you know, Google it.

What first caught my attention was the video made by Atomic Tom. Unfortunately they had their instruments stolen just before their video shoot and necessity being the mother of invention, they broke out their iPhones and iPads, borrowed a few, sat down on the New York subway and made a video. Now they aren’t the only band to do this, there are many other bands out there taking advantage of this technology – The Brilliant Things, Trace Bundy who covered Metallica, FeelAbouT – and then there are the many amateur videos of people playing everything from Hotel California to Losing My Religion to Canon in D. So now with an iPhone and iShred, anyone can play guitar…or drums…or piano…or violin…

It’s really worth looking on YouTube at what some people are accomplishing with these apps. I’m probably more amazed than the majority of you will be.

And to prove that you can have a lot of fun with it, North Point iBand:
