OK Go has been around a long time, the band first formed in 1998 in their home town of Chicago, Illinois. They have released three studio albums, OKGo in 2002, Oh No in 2005 and last years Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, which is probably their best to date. This past August 23rd, OK Go were part of a Muppet tribute album that included tracks by Weezer (The Rainbow Connection featuring Hayley Williams), My Morning Jacket (Our World), Andrew Bird (It Ain’t Easy Being Green), Airborne Toxic Event (Wishing Song), Alkaline Trio (Moving Right Along), and others. It’s a great concept with patchy results. However, there is nothing at all wrong with OK Go’s partnership with The Muppets and their cover of The Muppet Show Theme Song.
For those of you who are wondering where you have heard OK Go, they are the guys who did this viral video that in two years has had almost nine millions hits. That’s amazing. This video won a 2007 Grammy for “Best Short Form Music Video” , and a YouTube award for the most creative video of 2006. It was also nominated for a MTV Europe Video Award and was nominated as the “Best Music Video That Should Have Won A Moon Man” for the 2009 MTV Music Video Awards. Since then the guys have put their creative heads together and made a bunch of equally entertaining videos, my favourites can be seen here (gotta love the goat), here, and here.
Now those guys are at it again and have released a video that is entirely too much fun (I’ve included it below) to coincide with the release of the Muppet tribute album previously mentioned. They have also released an experimental video with the help of Google Chrome – Warning: if you don’t have Chrome the video won’t work correctly and you will miss the best part of it which I can’t tell you about without spoiling the whole thing (not that it’s so astounding that it will change your life, it’s just a nifty little trick that you have to wait till the end of the video to see). The song, All Is Not Lost is pretty cool on it’s own. The Muppet video is really quite hilarious and it incorporates themes from OK Go’s previous videos. It is also a treat to see all our Muppet friends again. I miss the Swedish Chef. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
More from Chris Taylor (now under the moniker CANT,) off his upcoming album Dreams Come True which will be released September 13. Bericht gave me a Emily Haines, Knives Don’t Have Your Back vibe with a jolt of ghostly soul from Taylor.
Hot of the press yall, two of my favourites Bon Iver and James Blake are here with one serious track.
I was particularly drawn to UK singer/producer Mo Kolours’ EP1: Drum Talking. It drips eclecticism, using the likes of reggae and psychedelia alongside crooning, soft lyrics to morph a sort of grimy-indie-hip hop. Kolours remains under the radar, but I’ve certainly got my eye on him especially with a debut as solid and cohesive as he has presented.
Do your self a favour, download this guys mix tape right now. You can do that here Maybe its going to school in Detroit, but I have been really feeling this guy, clams casino has proven yet again that he is hands down the best producer in hip hop right now.
