The Consequence (Cash Cash) – By The Bedside EP
Cash Cash, formerly known as The Consequence when they released their By The Bedside EP, is a band that is taking pop-punk/electronica to the next level. Don’t let the recent name change fool you, this is the same talented band, only refocused and definitely in a position to create a lot of buzz. From Roseland, New Jersey, Cash Cash will be supporting Boys Like Girls at Alfred State College on April 10th, and should be making a splash this year.
By The Bedside EP is an outrageously fun compilation of songs that will make just about anyone smile. The songs range from really exciting danceable songs, to slightly slower more heart felt tunes. Regardless of the song you’re listening to, you’ll realise that Cash Cash is providing listeners with an upbeat alternative to the gloomy emo listen from today’s artists.
The song Break Out starts off the EP with a bang. Break Out hosts a variety of little tweaks that make it a very fun, catchy, and addictive song. Starting off, the vocals are very subtle, almost as if they were rehearsing a catchy poem. The transition from lead to backup vocals, and the overall melody of their voices, creates a fun environment that even little kids would probably enjoy. The addition of well placed synths coupled with the awesome guitar/bass/drums make for an incredibly pleasant song. This song is a gateway into a happier place and I think it epitomises the great work that Cash Cash is currently up to.
Continuing the EP you’ll hear songs like Lush, which has a little more swagger. It doesn’t play the good guy tune that Break Out has, but instead adds a little more attitude to create a song that is still fun, but packs a bit of a punch. If Break Out was a nice lemonade, than Lush would be more of a long island iced tea. Either way, on a hot day, you would be thrilled to have either.
Fairweather Friend is more like Break Out, except it holds a bit more value. The meaning behind the song feels relevant for a lot of people, and I think listeners will find it to be a moral boost in a lot of ways. It doesn’t sound as high profile as the previous songs, because it takes the route of simpler melodies. Instead of a song jam packed with synths and instruments, Fairweather Friend wins my support by using catchy lyrics entertained by even catchier synths.
Cash Cash provides music that is playful and charming. Don’t expect songs that speak directly to the soul, instead you’ll find Cash Cash inspires in much simpler ways. Their music is uplifting and incorporates electronica in a fulfilling way that other bands often miss. Instead of just using electronica for the sake of using it, Cash Cash takes advantage of the genre to add to their surreal music. It just so happens that in the end, they create an exciting and upbeat pop-punk/electronica image, which has a ton of potential. With an expected album release in the fall of 08, expect big things from Cash Cash a.k.a. The Consequence.
