Back 2 School/End of Summer Playlist

Summer has basically ended with me wasting it and not working all. My summer ended in July as I injured my knee and wasn’t really able to have fun for the last month. I’ll try… to go back to some concerts but standing around is still a bitch.

Filling in for Joe who needs a break before school starts, I’m holding onto the albums I review for tomorrow ;) so enjoy this playlist. Most of them are recycled MP3s from other posts and rather short songs but it’s better then nothing right?

Chaingang – Holiday, Get Off The Stage, Cut Here

Chaingang Holiday, Get Off The Stage, Cut Here
What is it from bands “down under”? I mean all of them just happened to be good when contacted about them. Die! Die! Die! And Motocade as the only other examples and both of those bands express some quality punk rock. Something is brewing down there in their scene that is producing some excellent music.

The next band from Sydney, Australia is Chaingang. They claim to have named it after the first Mickey Mouse cartoon that featured the lovable Pluto. I’m not quite sure I recall it but I did enjoy that cartoon…

Chaingang has currently released only demos (3 tracks) and the quality is simply stunning. The first track I really dug and I’ve been listening to the past week is Holiday. Some awesome guitar riffs and lines and the drumming really makes this song a fun song to listen to. Musically it sounds very clean yet very cool, not reminiscent of an unsigned band at all. To add the greatness is Hayley as the front-woman. She reminds me of a mix of Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Josephine Olausson of Love Is All. It’s a bit rough around the edges but it fits perfect with the music.

I’d love to see this band live or better yet…I can only imagine what happens when they make an actual release. These demos are amazing and I’d recommend you check them out. They’ve made something dance-able yet totally cool at the same time that you feel like you can rock out too.
