David Myles – On The Line Review

I would it say these days its harder for folk artists to grab my attention. I get quite a few promotional e-mails and I’ve found most to be rather the same with nothing personally standing out. I was in a bit of a funk until I was introduced to David Myles. To be fair he mixes more things like blues and jazz so it’s even arguable that he’s a folk singer-songwriter. The fact is that he brings much to the table with his soothing vocals with a great backing band behind him.
David Myles is from Halifax or Frederiction basically on the east coast of Canada. We’ve been lucky to get so many artists from the East Coast. (Also is he related to the David Myles on hockeydb?).
I actually had the album “On The Line” for quite some time, most of the time fixated on the track “I Don’t Want To Know”. This usually how my music experience, I like one song and sometimes the rest follow. Sometimes it just takes a long time for to really get into album.
I’m not too ecstatic about the album itself but there are some really good songs that I’ve learned to like like New Friend and If Today Was A Year. Other tracks seem a little a odd in nature, such as strange intros that kill off the momentum. Actually most of the album starts off slow and finally picks up. This can be a major weakness, it’s hard to get into something that doesn’t instantly grab you.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Otherwise a solid album.
