Aliens in America Playlist!
Aliens in America has become one of my favorite television shows which I don’t actually watch on television. I managed to run into the pilot on the A-channel, a seldom watched channel but nontheless won be over in 5 minutes. It doesn’t hurt that they also have an indie-rock playlist playing the likes of Bishop Allen, Rilo Kiley and Los Campesinos on their shows. Ultimately, it’s such a hilarious show without the laugh tracks and it ultimately is heartfelt and is the perfect family show.
This show was actually really funny and most of all meaningful as a teen grows up in high school. The sad thing is that it wasn’t promoted and many viewers from outside of the US were forced to download the show via torrents. They also switched their lineup days and lost half their viewership. The Canadian channel fucked me over by not playing it and I looked forward to downloading this show weekly.
I guess the problem is that a sitcom with rather real situations when a Muslim exchange student is living in the US but it’s a shame that the stuff on TV is that popular do you people buy into that crap? This television show had SOUL and was just hilarious.. it didn’t glamorize the rich and fashion and the idiotic. It was believable and sometimes I just don’t understand why things are popular.. Like Undeclared, this show is only going to last one season. It’s officially canceled with one more episode to go. I think that I just hate people and “pop culture” in general or else shows like these would stay alive and that bitch Tila Tequila would be off the air. Like Undeclared this show is ahead of its time I guess. Judd Apatow sure has been successful since Fox are a bunch of retards. Stupid CW.
If you’re in the US you can watch episodes here. Otherwise just download the first and ONLY season on The Pirate Bay.
Watch the pilot here it still makes me laugh and I’ve seen this episode 50 times:
Right now I’m still pretty sad about the cancellation but here’s a playlist.

Album Reviews I Messed Up On in 2007
When looking at reviews made in the past, don’t you ever say “this publication really missed the boat on that album”. Anyway when compiling and looking at the grades I gave for reviews this past year, I think it was apparent I
We all make mistakes but it’s really about admitting them!
Albums I was too nice on:
Hot Hot Heat – Happiness Ltd.
Original Rating: 4 out of 5
I must say I am not proud at all with giving this score…granted Happiness Ltd. was a decent album but it definitely wasn’t trash like some people are saying. I think I started getting tougher on albums right after looking at this album. Hot Hot Heat’s Happiness Ltd. does have a more mainstream sound and when I go back on the album it does give off a “meh” feeling despite how poppy it is. This album would probably get a 3 out of 5 from me. I liked it more then “Elevator” and there were some tracks I dug despite giving off that “emo” feeling. An average effort but in the end as I’ve moved on from liking HHH.

Shout Out Louds – Our Ill Wills
Original Rating: 4.5 out of 5
The 4.5 out of 5 ranking doesn’t match what I wrote and still feel when I wrote the review for “Our Ill Wills”. I felt this album produced a lot of hits but as an album it didn’t quite gel together. It was a great progression from “Howl Howl Gaff Gaff” but I believe it deserves to be around a 4 out of 5. The first half of this album is amazing though. I think when I gave this score, I was a little bit biased as the Shout Out Louds are one of my favorite bands… Am I nitpicking at my own ranking here? Maybe but a 4 and 4.5 makes a huge difference from the very good to cream of the crop.

Eisley – Combinations
Original Rating: 5 out of 5
A 5 out of 5 review would probably guarantee this album in my top 20 albums of ‘07 (if not my top 10) but I think this album just missed and that I was too high when reviewing “Combinations”. When preparing for this post, I went back to the album to get a better idea of what the score should be. I was reminded how good this album actually is despite the “blah” reviews. It’s not quite 5 material but I think it deserves a 4.5 out of 5 for being very good. Also while looking up the hot Eisley girls I found out Sherri Dupree’s marriage to New Found Glory’s guitarist Chad Gilbert has seemed to have ended. Not that I really care but Eisley fans might be interested.

Albums I was too harsh on:
Beirut – Flying Club Cup
Original Rating: 3.25 out of 5
3.25 out of 5 isn’t that bad of a score. Most albums I review will probably receive 3s but I must say I never gave this album a chance. I do recall songs being a bit too complex for me and I’d wish for songs to be a lot more simpler. I never really tried to get into this album even if from the outset I knew it would take some effort. I MAY do a re-review if someone requests but I just think I couldn’t really justify the 3.25.

New Pornographers – Challengers
Original Rating: 3 out of 5
Challengers was overall a fun album to listen to. I think the problem when I reviewed the album is that I fixated on the “filler” moments of the album and there were some great tracks that I will make my top 30 songs of this year. The album should’ve gotten a 4 out of 5 from me and I probably was in an upset mood or something for giving a poor score.

Mutiny, I Promise You by The New Pornographers
Bishop Allen – The Broken String
Original Rating: 2 out of 5
Like, reviewing Beirut’s album I really didn’t give this album much time. Most of this album were remastered songs from the 12 EP project that they released for every month of the year. Corazon was arguably my favorite song by them and there were a handful of tracks that I dug stylistically. I think they went away from that for “The Broken String”. No fault of their own but I could’ve been less-biased and tried to use less of my own likings of some songs rather then complaining how they did this and that.

Battles – Mirrored
Original Rating: 1.5 out of 5
I can’t really defend myself here. I gave out a harsh review because the album didn’t fit into my style at all and it gave me constant headaches. Listening to Battles’ “Mirrored” was a mistake at the time I would say because I was not ready for their style of music. It still gives me a headache but I don’t think I should’ve written a review at all but I think I could look at it again to see how my views has changed. I’m thinking about doing a re-review but I need some motivation as I’ve got a bunch of stuff to cover.

Hot Hot Heat: Happiness Ltd. Review
Hot Hot Heat’s Happiness Ltd. has gotten some mixed reviews especially on Metacritic where they have a 61 score at the moment. The sound that Hot Hot Heat is shifted to a more mainstream sound but they still retain their catchy-ness.
I sometimes don’t agree with the majority critics but this time I find that Hot Hot Heat’s Happiness Ltd. is a decent album with some you can really like. If you are a HHH fan you shouldn’t be disappointed. I’d say this album is a 4 out of 5 and worth to stay on my computer.
It’s weird when the critics on the album just because it has become more mainstream. I think this is the case here because there is nothing that yells drastic change and something you can smoothly transition to. I think I was more of a fan of this album then “Elevator”.
If there are some downsides, there are a few mediocre not worth your ears type songs but those are few and far between. This album gives too much of an “EMO” vibe though. First the title of the album and I feel like the songs could be more appropriately titled. This may have influenced people as I was ready to NOT listen to this album based on the song titles alone. Alas, I am glad I took the time to listen to this album.

Albums coming out this week: Shout Out Louds, Hot Hot Heat, 50 vs Kanye.
The album I want the most on when releases come up on September 11th is the band in the picture, the Shout Out Louds. I loved Howl Howlf Gaff Gaff and I expect bigger things from them. It was produced by Bjorn of Peter, Bjorn and John and while they generally have depressing songs theyre song are all catchy and they have “the Cure” type of feeling when I listen to them. Our Ill Wills is an album I am definitely buying.
There first single was “Tonight I have to Leave It”. They had a very good track featuring the Essex Green a band I have liked a few songs by.
Check it out:

Another album worth checking out is Hot Hot Heat’s Happiness Limited. I am hoping we don’t have songs that are too depressing but I doubt that from the title. The 50 cent vs Kanye West was stupid but I expect Kanye to come out of it the winner for putting on better raps. I’ve grown tired of 50 cent that he annoys me now.
Ani DiFranco’s greatest hits may be also worth checking out including Simian Mobile Disco who have heard songs from. Simian Mobile Disco’s music video for Hustler is awesome:
