The Dark Knight Playlist and Review
I dislocated my knee Thursday night so all I’ve got to do is stay at home on my bed. I figured I’m about a week late with the playlist and review, who needs my input? With the extra time “presented” to me, I changed my mind. It also “puts a smile on my face”
The Dark Knight has been a huge critical and financial success, grossing just under $160 million in an opening weekend, critical praise of 95% and becoming the #1 movie on IMDB. So better late then never with my review and playlist?
My playlist tried to involve some key quotes surrounding the movie. Granted the real soundtrack is great but let’s give the movie a good playlist anyway.
1. The Thieves They Are Everywhere by Bridges and Powerlines
2. Pencil Rot by Stephen Malkmus
3. Only Clowns Are Scary by I Love Math
4. Boy With A Coin by Iron & Wine
5. Smile Like You Mean It by The Killers
6. Knights of Cydonia by Muse
7. I’m Your Villain by Franz Ferdinand
8. The Angry Mob by Kaiser Chiefs
9. Psycho Killer by The Talking Heads
10. No Key, No Plan by Okkervil River
11. Black Heroes by Ratatat
Here’s the movie review below (CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!!!)

I Love Math – Getting To The Point Is Beside It
I dedicated a post to I Love Math by doing a write up for their single St. Josephine.
I Love Math released the wonderfully titled “Getting to the Point Is Beside It” on May 27th. They are bit of a supergroup from Dallas comprised of members of Apples in Stereos, Deathray Davies etc. An indie rock supergroup of bands I admittedly don’t know about so does it count?
After a few listens, GTTPIBI wasn’t too bad. Their standout track is still “Josephine Street” and may sneak into my top 100 songs of the year. While it’s only a standout because it’s more memorable then other tracks. By memorable I don’t mean better…but more of the lines of catchy (catchy can be good but bad too).
I Love Math creates relaxing and simplistic music with standout vocals. It’s the kind of album that I find myself listening to without realizing it. Though it’s not really stimulating. There’s always that album that you like to listen to because it’s good to sleep to or relaxing but I tend to want more then that. A second standout would be “I’ve Seen Better Days” for stepping outside the box with a semi guitar solo in the last half. In a sense I feel like if they tried to step outside the box more they could’ve had something amazing.
Alas it’s more of the lines of above average and while there’s nothing wrong with it…it’s hard to be successful just being “mediocre”. Some interesting titles though like “Only Clowns Are Scary“.
Rating: 3.75 out of 5
I kind of like the album…but it’s one the those albums I’ll go back to sporadically and my mood on the album changes from time to time.
I Love Math – Josephine Street
This is my second post on a single and not an album review, this is usually what goes on the blogosphere anyway so I can’t be blamed right?
Besides bands need promotion pre-album release date and I will definitely have a review up of I Love Math’s “Getting To The Point Beside It” when it drops in May and so far they have done a music video of Josephine Street.
I’ll talk a little bit about I Love Math, a band based in Dallas, Texas which features John Dufilho drummer for the Apples in Stereo and other members from bands such as the Deathray Davies, and Old 97s. It’s a little bit interesting what genre I would classify this band on. From the 3 songs I’ve heard, they seem to be more experimental using southern rock elements, to twee pop with a keyboard giving off an electro feel.
Josephine Steet is a nice little number, with a country/southern rock hook but ultimately being a cute pop song. Which of course there’s nothing wrong with that! Simplicity at it’s finest.
It’s the perfect song in my opinion to walk on the street while listening to it on your headphones especially on a nice day. It makes me want to run outside and play as if I were a kid again. The music video of walking outside on the street but out on snowy climate in New Mexico. Who knew New Mexico had snow…it almost looks like Toronto and while this winter was harsh in comparison to other years, it captures the beauty of a snowy day.

P.S. I don’t love math. I kind of hate it to be honest. Even math rock becomes a little iffy (still trying but asymetric time signatures + the drumming makes me go insane!). I’m more of a Science guy who loves formulas and math at higher levels has nothing to do with adding or substracting…it’s all proofs and gibberish! Enjoy the track.
