Les Georges Leningrad

Les Georges Leningrad

I was introducted to Les Georges Leningrad by this guy I had a huge crush on at the time so I’m afraid my opinion of them is at least a little bit biased. As with any avant-garde project, they cannot be contained so I won’t be insulting and attempt to classify them by genre. If they must be described in one word: schizophrenic.

Les Georges Leningrad broke up early last year but it is hard to believe anything they say. They left us three studio albums, an EP, and a remix of Supa Doopa. My favourite is Sur Les Traces de Black Eskimo because it has the most harmony and I feel like it has a different tone from the other two.

Some bands are engaging in the way that we want to know everything about its members. We feel that they connect with us as human beings. This is not the case with Les Georges Leningrad. Poney P, Mingo L’Indien, and Bobo Boutin are only vehicles of their art. The music is spastic, garbled, unnerving. It is kitschy, yet profound. It is nonsense yet it will unveil the secrets of the universe. It is something the children of the future will listen to in another dimension. It will take you away.

I can’t tell you whether you’ll like it or not. You have to listen for yourself.
