Pineapple Express Review and Playlist

Pineapple Express Review and Playlist

Pineapple Express opened on August 6th in theatres and is another addition to the Seth Rogen/Judd Apatow franchise which involves the likes of Knocked Up, Superbad and 40-year old virgin. All those movies I can say I liked a ton.

The Pineapple Express soundtrack which can be found here, I found sort of disappointing. For one the trailer which featured MIA’s Paper Planes is seemingly left off from the soundtrack and is no where to be found in the movie. Generally the use of the songs from the movie are background fodder. It also doesn’t help that I know very few of the tracks myself and a lot of them seem to be for the older crowd as well.

Here’s my own playlist for the movie instead:

Paper Planes by MIA
How I Became Paranoid by CSS
Stress by Justice
Freak Out by Liars
Midnight Runner by Cut Copy
D is for Dangerous by The Arctic Monkeys
Start A War by The National
The Green King Sings by Blitzen Trapper
My Girl Is Calling Me (A Liar) by Chromeo
Highway of Endless Dreams by M83

As for the movie, it was funny but it definitely wasn’t on the same level of funniness as the other films we’ve been accustomed to. I would say not to have your expectations too high because you are probably bound to be disappointed. It’s a solid film that doesn’t get too ridiculous with the marijuana jokes. It plays a factor in the movie but the action is actually pretty solid and most of the time it’s funny. Some things are a little bit over the top and recounting of events is a bit unnecessary and seems like filler script at best.

An alright summer movie to enjoy with some friends. Potentially better to go under of influence of some “help”. 3.5 out of 5.

Allan’s Top Songs of 07 #50-26

I actually quite enjoyed picking out the top songs of 2007. There were many tracks from albums I loved and other singles that stood out in a lackluster album. Most of these tracks I have posted before (I’ll link to the post if you wish to dig hard enough to download them) and are mainly bands I am familiar with. Generally, I blogged about the band if they appeared in the top 50. There are some tracks I haven’t posted yet so you’ll be able to download them here (I think it looks bad if I have every mp3 listed available for download). I linked to the post where the other mp3s are available.

I did hate uploading tracks though and the linking stuff (takes forever). I also had to re-upload some tracks after annoying my friend Jack with bandwidth usage. Look out for the rest tomorrow.

Liars : Liars Review

Liars is a band that was opening for Interpol and decided to check out their self-titled release based on internet buzz.

I am not quite sure what musical genre you would want to group them into but I’ll just say it’s on the alternative side of things so you can check them out yourself.

Okay, onto the album. This album was really hard to listen to at first. I didn’t know what it was but I was ready to bash this album because it did kind of give me a headache. However when this happens that I find myself not really able to listen to an album, I give it a second chance to see if there are any songs that can save it from going to my computer’s recycling bin.

There were a few songs that stood out and they all happened to be bunched into one. The album gets good by Track 6 with Cycle Time, a favorite on the album would be “Freak Out” and “Clear Island” is a great track to.

I think the problem here is that I still dislike the rest and the album as a whole gives me a headache to listen to. A lot of it sounds repetitive (the stuff I didn’t like) and while the tracks I did like save it from a poor rating it still gets 3 out of 5 in my book. Roughly half the album is going into my recycling bin.

Still a decent album but just not quite good enough for me that I would be raving about it.
