Lily Allen – It’s Not Me, It’s You Review

Lily Allen Its Not Me, Its You Review

I remember when Lily Allen was known only for her talent and straightforward music. Right before Amy Winehouse hit it big and overshadowed. Before she was known for blogging her feelings about her weight gain. Before her media back-n-forth with Katy Perry about who’s more real. It sucks. I like Lily Allen and sucks that she allows herself to get pulled into the media machine. Then again, maybe it’s all about the machine.

So finally, we get to read something on Lily that is not publicity driven, but talent driven. Her new album It’s Not Me, It’s You, released Feb 9th (less than 2 weeks ago). It’s been a long wait considering all the b.s in between, but this album is good. Too short, but good nevertheless. A little while ago she had released a version of Britney’s Womanizer, included after the post.

The songs: Everyone’s At It, a song saying that everyone’s at the drugs, whether it be anti-depressants or lines. I like the chorus, it’s a banging of piano chords with Allen whispering “Everyone’s At It”. Not Fair is more of the usual Lily Allen sound, with a slight giddy-up flare during the chorus. 22 is more pop-sounding with a predictable chorus.

My Faves: Back To The Start and Never Gonna Happen.

Overall, I would say this is an okay album from Lily Allen. Her sound has evolved from her 2006 album. This album leaves the Ska influence of Allen’s first album Alright, Still behind and goes into the Electronica world. She keeps her sarcastic and straightforward sense of humour. She doesn’t seem to be the foul mouth bike riding, converse wearing girl anymore. Now, she’s the foul mouth, heel wearing, vintage shopping, fashion show attending girl. I think this album is the middle stage between who Lily Allen started out to be and where she’s going to be. She’s not quite there yet though…

Mixtape For the Holidays (Without Being Christmas-y)

The term Christmas doesn’t really suit this blog well. None of us are Christian (I think) and whether it is Athiest, Christianity, Judaism, Agnostic, Buddhism, (or even Satanism?). Either way everyone is basically off from school or work or whatever daily happenings of their life. So it’s great to have some get togethers and overall it’s supposed to be a fun rocking time.

I am not going with the generic Christmas songs but I think going with happier type songs. I do have a favorite Christmas song (by The Raveonettes). Anyway I found this list hard to do…who knows maybe it’s the selection I have on this blog or just that most songs are depressing or angry and have nothing to do with being cheerfully happy? Enough ranting.

1. Feist – It’s Cool To Love Your Family
2. Jens Lekman – Your Arms Around Me
3. The Beatles – Come Together
4. The Elected – Would You Come With Me?
5. Of Montreal – On the Drive Home
6. Josh Ritter – Real Long Distance
7. Arcade Fire – No Cars Go
8. The New Pornographers – Sing Me Spanish Techno
9. Lily Allen – Everything’s Just Wonderful
10. The Postal Service – Sleeping In

Kaiser Chiefs Cancel Tour To Record New Album

Kaiser Chiefs Cancel Tour To Record New Album
I was thinking about seeing the Kaiser Chiefs but they had canceled the most of their US tour to apparently record a new album which will probably be out in 2008. This seems pretty fast to do a new album already but I wasn’t much of a fan of Yours Truly, Angry Mob (I did like some stuff, yes) and it was a huge disappoint because I liked Employment a whole lot. Apparently they put on great shows as the fan interaction is one of the best.

I am looking forward to some new stuff and hopefully they are good.

I am going to post the music video for Oh My God and Lily Allen’s cover of it which I also really dig.
