Back 2 School/End of Summer Playlist

Summer has basically ended with me wasting it and not working all. My summer ended in July as I injured my knee and wasn’t really able to have fun for the last month. I’ll try… to go back to some concerts but standing around is still a bitch.

Filling in for Joe who needs a break before school starts, I’m holding onto the albums I review for tomorrow ;) so enjoy this playlist. Most of them are recycled MP3s from other posts and rather short songs but it’s better then nothing right?

Constructive Summer by The Hold Steady – We’ve had a constructive summer for this blog didn’t we?
Stuck For The Summer by Two Hours Traffic – I was stuck at home for a good 5 weeks
It’s That Time Again by The Dodos
Brain Burner by No Age
Learnt My Lesson Well by Kaiser Chiefs
We’ll Never Sleep (God Knows We’ll Try) by Rilo Kiley
Insane Ft. Warrior Queen by The Bug

It Could Have Been A Brilliant Career by Belle and Sebastian -They’ll be saying that about me when I spend more time on this blog then on actual school

Harold and Kumar 2: Playlist and Review

Harold and Kumar 2: Playlist and ReviewHarold and Kumar 2: Escape From Guantanamo Bay was released to theatres today and I went to see it with Kevin as the first one was pretty awesome and produced tons of laughs.

As far as expectations go, I think the only expectation was that it had to be funny and anything extra was a bonus. I guess I guage how funny a movie is with the type of laughter I usually give off. In the case of movies if it’s able to get me laughing like a girl…it has done its job. I will say that some jokes were way too silly that it got unnecessary though the racial jokes and debunking of stereotypes was definitely a highlight. The storyline was a bit cheesy and the jokes make the movie worthwhile. One character also had me annoyed and being overthetop stupid (forget his name but he’s the guy in the trailer making the North Korea + Al Quaeda joke). However the movie knew how to be cute/romantic yet funny at the same time so it wasn’t all drug-filled silliness.

Overall, you got what you paid for which was lots of laughs and stupid storyline or not, it had its moments. 4 out of 5.

As for the soundtrack, it wasn’t too bad with the song that stuck out the most was Mickey Avalon’s My Dick as it played after the “bottomless” party. I think the soundtrack was alright, the hip-hop tied well into the movie the only thing I hated was the use of Boyz II Men It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye. I just didn’t think it tied into the movie and the movie doesn’t need serious “sad” moments.

Anyway here’s my playlist for the movie:
(for you Googlers, the actual soundtrack list can be found here)

1. My Dick by Mickey Avalon
2. Amsterdam by Peter, Bjorn and John
3. I Gotta Run by Everybody Else
4. It Could Have Been A Brilliant Career by Belle & Sebastian
5. Stupid and Shallow by The Futureheads
6. A Better Son/Daughter by Rilo Kiley
7. Kissing In The Grass by Of Montreal
8. Because I Got High by Afroman
9. Banking On A Myth by Andrew Bird
10. Southern Comfort by Arrah and The Ferns
11. Vanished by Crystal Castles
12. Stoned Again by The Evangelicals
13. People You Meet by Bishop Allen

I could explain the meaning of each song if you don’t get why I put them in, just leave a comment and I’ll gladly respond.

Playlist Dedicated to Posties + Money Draw!

Recent developments that have altered the way I blog (discontinued my two other blogs) is the non-sense with Google punishing blogs for having paid content. This has affected me personally. Just know that this music blog would not be possible with the money I made from paid blogging. I can host my own songs and I can purchase albums for reviewing whenever I want (a HUGE luxury).

If you’ve come here from the Hype Machine or Elbo.ws, posties is a name that was given for paid bloggers usingPayPerPost which acts as the driving force to making us an incredible amount of money. The community has some really nice people and are really are deserving of having their spirits lifted for the holiday season will all the crappy turmoil recently faced (there have been some unfortunate issues).

Here my playlist dedicated to the Posties with some of my favorite artists:
1. Up Against The Wall – Peter, Bjorn, and John
2. The Moneymaker – Rilo Kiley
3. A Time To Be So Small by Interpol
4. Thief – Our Lady Peace (because Google is one)
5. Nothing Better – The Postal Service
6. Good People by Jack Johnson
7. The Angry Mob – Kaiser Chiefs
8. My Rights Versus Yours – New Pornographers
9. The Comeback – Shout Out Louds

Anyway the contest is going to be a drawing with:

Prizes: 1st place prize of $21.63 by Paypal and a (to offset fees) 2nd Place Prize A Blog Review with a a playlist dedicated to your blog much like this playlist.

Eligibility: Posties ONLY. A lot of outsiders will see this post due to having this post parsed by music aggregators but I just can’t see an outsider winning without me feeling bad. So just enjoy the mp3s :) .

How to enter: Easy, leaving a comment gets you an entry. Subscribing to my feed (by e-mail) and letting me know will get you another entry. You can blog about this if you want but it’s really not necessary as this feels separate from my normal type content but it will give you another entry. You don’t have to choose the blog now to be reviewed as I will just ask the second place winner.

Contest ends: December 11th. I am going to be busy until then as it’s after two exams but if you have any questions/concerns just drop a line.

Stuck Studying!

Anyway I’m currently studying for my Organic Chemistry and Animals courses in the next two days so I’m going to be busy and can’t blog.

After those tests, I’m adding another writer and possibly changing the theme of the site to suit two sidebars.

Just to keep on the theme of uploading songs here are two songs with the name science in it. Both pretty much are about romance with a scientific spin on it! Nerdy 8-| but cool!

Tickets Still Available to See Rilo Kiley @ The Phoenix

Tickets are still available for the Rilo Kiley concert on Tuesday, September 18th. I have circled this concert as something I want to see and yet another I have to find an actual fan to come see (I could always drag xulander). There are a few people I could ask to come see Rilo Kiley (I did ask my ex on some occasions but I don’t really want to see her).

It’s not the end of the world if I don’t see Rilo Kiley (I know they’ll be back) and being busy with school and all it’s pretty tough to go to a concert and keep up with school work.

I am probably not going to see this concert, though I would like to, it would take a last minute decision if I choose to see them. Either way it’s an excuse to include some music videos by them :) . Visit their home page and their myspace for other concert information. You can also visit their Youtube page for their other music videos.

Rilo Kiley: Under the Blacklight Review

Rilo Kiley
Rilo Kiley’s “Under the Blacklight” was released on August 21st and I have been listening since then. This album needed some time to really allow myself to like the songs unlike their other albums which were far better in comparison (would get 5’s).

This album has been received mixed reviews some really liking and others hating it. I personally liked it but to an extent. I think Rilo Kiley fans will like this CD though if you were recommending a Rilo Kiley CD or track it probably wouldn’t be recommended.

This album unlike their other albums just needs time but I think if you give it a chance you’ll end up really liking it. Most reviews are done much earlier then they are supposed so I don’t think they capture the essence on some songs. Anyway, I don’t think this album is the greatest but it is good. It gets a 4 out of 5 from me.

Albums Out This Week: Rilo Kiley, M.I.A. and New Pornographers

Rilo Kiley
This week 3 albums came out that I will have to definitely check out.
First off Rilo Kiley is listed as one of my favorite bands and while I really dig them “Under the Blacklight” is having mixed results from reviewers. I generally don’t care what critics are going to say and I am definitely going to give this one a review in the future and add in my two cents.

Here’s my favorite Rilo Kiley song (I really like Blake Sennett’s vocals):

I am not really big fans of either the New Pornographers or M.I.A. but I have liked of a lot of the singles that I have managed to download. Since I am familiar with them it feels as if it couldn’t hurt to check them out. M.I.A.’s Kala is tearin’ up the reviews at the moment and I usually check out unknown bands that have good reviews. Look for their albums to be reviewed in the upcoming months (this was an excuse to get some Rilo Kiley on here).
