Saritah – Gratitude

Saritah GratitudeWestern Australia based artist Saritah released her debut album Gratitude in 2004, after two years of recording between London and Fremantle. The opening track sets the overall tone of the album; an upbeat groove coupled with a positive message.

Her album rides along on her well written lyrics, her vocal style swinging from spoken word to sultry and seamless harmonies. Her fourth track, Journey, departs from her usual folk-pop sound and reverts to a slow paced bluesy-rock feel, ending on an off-beat over driven guitar riff.

Having toured extensively over the years in places as far flung as Canada, Spain and South Korea, Saritah has cut her teeth on the live touring circuit which serves her well when playing to different demographics. As the message of her music has universal appeal so too does she. Looking like your best friend’s cool older sister she has also been nominated for best Blues and Roots Artist in the 2006 WAMI awards.

This reviewer was lucky enough to catch Saritah live in June this year. She and her talented band played their grooves in an intimate setting with a small, ineffective light show that did nothing to take away from the earthly rhythms emanating from the PA. After only a few songs she had the small pub jumping and dancing along with her sweet toned songs about love, hope, gratitude and positivity. The outstanding performance of the night was Jamie Pattugalan on drums, locking in with the bass player to keep everybody moving with the infectious groove.

The overall production of this independently released album is very clean, crisp and as a debut LP is a sign of better things to come from this young woman. Her last track, Red Faced Man rounds out the album well leaving the listener satisfied, sated and chilled out. Touring next year as supporting act for Ash Grunwald those who appreciate her soulful sounds will be happy to know she has another album on the way.
