Canada’s Election Day Playlist

Anyway here is the playlist before I rant anymore:
Minority by Green Day
Over Soon by Broadcast 2000 (only 37 days to campaign, and I missed a lot of the debates)
The Switch and The Spur by The Raconteurs (switching ballots is legal but how do they do it? seems odd when asking for ID’s etc).
Breaking It Up by Lykke Li (dissolutions are fun, but apparently costly)
Pioneers by Bloc Party (Look for the Bloc Part aka Bloc Quebecois to continue their stronghold)
Mr. Orange by Dengue Fever (for Jack Layton, hopefully the orange tide is as strong as ever)
Harper Road by Sun Kil Moon (for the Prime Minister)
Morning Heat Leader by Broadfield Marchers (yeah that’s all I got for Dion)
Hard Times by Run DMC (hard times are spreadin’ like the flu!)
Weekly Wrap- Up
I guess I plan to highlight all the week’s posts and some news around the blogosphere to add something different.
With a ton of new writers on board. I won’t get into any details as of yet but it’s more then a handful who will cover even more genres and music.

Around the blogosphere:
Kings of Leon have been a hot topic with their mp3 release of Sex On Fire. (haven’t listened personally)
The Faint has been a hot band on the blogosphere. Despite a below average score on P4k. I tried listening to their myspace, didn’t like it and moved on.
Bat For Lashes covered The Cure’s A Forest.
I was also shocked at 3:50AM when I heard a thud. Then the sky turned orange and off in the distance was a big ass explosion that looked like a bomb. Photo Junkie had pictures of it.
Sun Kil Moon – April Review
Sun Kil Moon aka Mark Kozelak released his disc titled “April” fittingly on April 1st of this year. I’ve had this album for some time and I remember getting this album because at one point I was quite captivated. I just put the album on hold for 4 months. Better late then never?
Sun Kil Moon takes from the genre of “slowcore”. By slowcore, it’s minimalist expression as you get slow paced tracks. Looking at the tracklisting, I was definitely intimidated. The first track is 9 minutes long, the second is 7! Just 11 tracks and almost 74 minutes of songs, talk about quantity. For the record, having listened to an incredible amount of music over the last year, I developed sort of a music ADD. It at least explains why forcing myself to listen to album took so damn long.
“April” is an enjoyable album despite being slow-paced and rather long. It’s more of a mood album for me but the arrangements, singing and lyrically it is solid. I can’t fault style in this case because if you just hate an album for being to slow or too loud then you are probably missing the point.
The main hurdle for listeners is to find your groove, mood with this album. You’ll find that there’s a lot to offer with this album even though at times I want to listen to much more extroverted music.
“April” is simply a tough album to review, it’s long and slow and it really demands for you to put effort into finding the art behind the near silence. It’s hard to come out with the right words with this type of album as you don’t really get things at face value and sometimes I find it hard to follow it lyrically. I just close my eyes and let the music flow into my ears.
I’m not going to bullshit you, it’s a good album if you give it a shot and that’s basically all I’ve got to say after 3 months of trying.
