The Long Division

I hate long division. I mean it’s easy but I’d rather just use a calculator (I used to love long division but math became so uncool). I hated using long division during calculus when dealing algebra and trying to simplify a statement…so prone to mistakes.

Anyway The Long Division is a cross-continental project, self-claiming to sounding like a mix of The Postal Service, The Knife, Hot Chip & Royksopp. I’ve heard material from 4 out of 5 bands and while I do check everything in my inbox it didn’t hurt that one of the members was Canadian (Vandertogt).

The duo of Vandertogt and Gonzales met online and I guess they decided to do an exchange of music. Sounds like The Postal Service without having a famed member like Ben Gibbard.

The Long Division have some pretty decent tracks available for streaming on their myspace. They seem like a rather newish band or a lowly publicized band with under 4000 myspace hits.

Their music isn’t bad at all and while I find it quite enjoyable, I would probably not compare them to TPS or Hot Chip…those groups are much more dancey. This brand of music is much more relaxing, not too catchy or poppy and something that I wouldn’t mind falling asleep to.

The Long Division only have a few tracks at the moment with Neighbors and Space Park from the Multiply EP. They also have another EP called “Short Trips To Space” where you can listen to the track Ability.

I’m not good with comparisons but The Long Division have pretty good vocals, maybe nothing of Ben Gibbard quality but overall a voice that is smooth and flows well with the music. Check it out for yourselves.
