The Weeks – Comeback Cadillac Review

The Weeks Comeback Cadillac Review

The Weeks are a band from Jackson, Mississippi (sweet got the spelling right on my first try) who’s influence range from the Kings of Leon, the Mars Volta to Elliot Smith, Wilco and My Morning Jacket.

Their music definitely varies with harder punk rock elements to soft acoustic moments of southern rock. At times they can range from being angry with rage to absolutely beautiful expressed in their vocals. One constant thing about this band is that they’re great. Comeback Cadillac was released on July 8th (on Esperanza) and while I’ve had the opportunity to listen to their album for some time and I find it difficult to believe that this band averages 18. Age barely matters anyway when it comes to music.

The album starts with the title track that is more reminiscent of a punk rock with vocals and instruments on overdrive. An interesting way to start an album to say the least, it’s possible that it could have turned off some people as it definitely doesn’t do the rest of the album justice even if I like the song.

There’s some great progressive rock mixed with some southern rock that is worth your time. My favorite of which is Sailor Song featuring Allie Peden which is more like a country classic.

These guys definitely know how to make great music, bringing the coolness of bands like the Mars Volta and Kings of Leon which is hated by most critics and mending it with influences on the opposite spectrum into something amazing.
