Yip-Yip: Two Kings Of The Same Kingdom Review
Yip-Yip is an electronic duo out of Orlando, Florida and released “Two Kings Of The Same Kingdom” on February 5 on SAF records.
Upon entering their website you will notice that their site has a very trippy nature, that ultimately splits people on whether they like the layout or not (I’ve been showing people for kicks lol). With the flashing black and white background and pictures also flashing, I do have a hard time going through all the band’s information. They were once banned a year in Canada, it doesn’t say why and if anyone of you care I guess I can request to ask the dudes a few qs. When searching Yip-Yip on google you’re more likely to find stuff on the Sesame Street characters the Yips Yips. Any relation? I wouldn’t be surprised if there was.
TKOTSKR is a CD/DVD package with band made video’s for every track. The problem I have with the bonus DVD is that it is roughly the same video with the same concept and just low-tech images going across the screen as the band plays in the background. I went through it once before just deciding to concentrate on the music. The music itself is decent actually. Some dance-able tracks some including the use of the alto-saxophone (Kevin’s instrument of choice). Songs aren’t so much repeated on this album so you get a range of different beats, some I find more danceable to but even the ones I probably won’t get out of my seat for do have some likable qualities.
The only problem I have with this album, is length and this a huge issue. An electronic album with only 25 minutes of music is on the extremely low side. Only one song, Audacity Beach goes beyond 3 minutes and the second longest song goes on for barely 2 minutes and 30 seconds. A potentially great album had they been able to make a decent length sized album. Otherwise it ends up being nothing special, because it doesn’t hold your attention for long.
Rating: 3.25 out of 5.
