More In Music News Than The Grammys

Ugh…. Grammy weekend. It’s the time of year we get to witness hordes of untalented “musicians” get even more praise for the mediocre, over-produced albums that sound the same as all the albums they’re competing against. No thanks.

Maybe the only somewhat interesting news related are the performances by Radiohead and M.I.A. Wait a second, isn’t her baby due that day? Anyone want to take bets on if she pops the kid out on stage? That would definitely make some headlines.

In other (more interesting) news:

You Say Party! We Say Die! need your help.

More In Music News Than The Grammys

According to the band’s website a “call to action” has gone out. They are in search of anyone with video at any venue, during any point in their career. Whether it be on a hard drive, camera, super 8, tapes or even phones; they want it. Although the posting doesn’t give too much information as to why it’s needed, the nerd in me went on a mission to find out. Derek Adam (guitarist) recently revealed the purpose. “I’d love to compile some good footage and get a live DVD together, or even just something on-line”. In some ways this reminds me of the Beastie Boys DVD a few years back titled ‘Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That!’. Also, You Say Party! We Say Die! are back in the studio working on their third album, so keeps your eyes and ears open for more news on that.

The Mae Shi vs Christian Bale

More In Music News Than The Grammys

You’ve all probably heard it by now, Christian Bale laying the verbal smack down on Shane Hurlbut (director of photography on Terminator: Salvation). Maybe I have a twisted sense of humor, but I found it pretty damn hilarious and it turns out I’m not the only one. The Mae Shi (one of my current favorite bands) have taken clips from this tirade and developed a kick-ass electro-pop track titled ‘R-U-Professional’. Check below to hear this instant classic.

Another special treat for those trying to stay as far away from the Grammys as possible:

Jamie T has recently released a video for a brand new song named ‘Fire Fire’. This isn’t really a teaser track for his long awaited second album (due in the spring), as it won’t actually be on the album. It’s more a present to us for being patient. I have to stress though, this song is very different from anything I’ve heard him do. The verse is somewhat along the lines of his sound with funky basslines and drunken rap type slurs, but the chorus breaks into some heavy skate-punk with screaming vocals…. bringing me back to some wonderful memories of being young again. *sigh*

Here’s some music to get you through:

You Say Party! We Say Die! – Five Year Plan
You Say Party! We Say Die! – Monster
The Mae Shi – R-U-Professional
The Mae Shi – Run to Your Grave
Jamie T – Operation
