Beck’s Record Club gets help from fellow musicians

Recently announced at beck.com is the development of a new site with new features, the first being Record Club. Although album collaborations are nothing new, Beck and others have taken this idea and put a twist on it.
What this concept introduces is a collective of various musicians coming together to cover and record an entire album in one day; no rehearsal and no prior arrangements. The only pre planning will be the decision of the album to be re-worked. Each week one track will be uploaded to beck.com, but no word yet on if these will be for purchase, download or simply streaming.
It seems as though a lot of artists are getting involved in this project, the first round alone will be comprised of Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Brian Lebarton, Bram Inscore, Yo, Giovanni Ribisi (yes, the actor), Chris Holmes, Thorunn Magnusdottir (from Iceland) and of course Beck. While, future sessions will also most likely include MGMT, Devendra Banhart and Jamie Lidell, among others.
After much discussion, the first album to be featured will be The Velvet Underground & Nico. There has yet to be any dates set and other than the album and artists involved the information given is pretty vague… Guess we’ll just have to see how this pans out in the coming months.
