Steam Whistle brought together three great bands this past weekend, for a phenomenal party at the Phoenix. The line-up consisted of local band Little Girls, Montreal natives Think About Life and British Columbia’s You Say Party! We Say Die!

When I got too the Phoenix Little Girls was just wrapping up their last song and the set change was taking place. The Phoenix was not full when Think About Life got on stage but soon after the first song the floor was busy with people dancing. Think About Life consisted of four high energy characters. With both vocalists, Caila Thompson-Hannant and Martin Cesar dancing the entire show and band mates Graham Van Pelt and Greg Napier playing guitar and drums with the sounds of electronic voices in the background. Throughout the entire show Martin Cesar reached into his pockets and brought out hand fulls of gold glitter stars that he threw into the audience and began even sprinkling them on a few of the photographer’s lenses at the front of the stage. Later on in their set, bags full of balloons we were released from garbage bags and were bounced around the crowd. Think About Life played most of their song’s off of their “Family” album and for their last song “Sweet Sixteen” the entire band slipped away halfway through, leaving Martin Cesar alone on stage singing the final verses of the song without a mike. Definitely a great way to exit the stage.

You Say Party! We Say Die! came out after onto the stage with the lead singer Becky Ninkovic dressed in a red body suit with dramatic wings. The band opened with a song off their newest album “XXXX” which too be honest I haven’t taken a good listen too yet… but will do asap. You Say Party! We Say Die! played an exciting show getting the crowd moving with their blend of indie dance music. After hearing and reading about Becky Ninkovic and her huge ego, I can say that I saw it come out a little bit onstage as she brought all the attention to herself by dancing by herself in the center of the stage barely looking at her other bandmates.
