Phoenix on The Take-Away Shows
“And I’ll be anything you ask, and more.”
It’s a wonderful concept: Vincent Moon and Phoenix. To actually see such a concept is something else altogether. The skilled filming Vincent Moon uses to capture such an extraordinary band is priceless; better than any music video can ever offer.
Recently, Phoenix was featured on La Blogotheque, or The Take Away Shows, playing “1901,” “Lisztomania,” “One Time Too Many,” and “Long Distance.” Yes, at first, I questioned listening to one of my favorite songs, “1901,” asking myself how a Take Away performance could satisfy the synth beats of the band, or the distinct voice of Thomas Mars. However, not only are the catchy beats compensated for, but Thomas Mars’ voice suppresses all skepticism.
“Lisztomania” does not fall short either, save the quietness of the guitar that may have sounded better up a notch in volume. After the song following that, “One Time Too Many,” the band leaves the top of the tourist bus to find a crowd gathered on the streets of Paris, intrigued by a normal man, unaware that the band was even present. Such an ironic greeting, or lack there of, after Phoenix had just performed one of the most captivating live acts on the streets of Paris.
